Sunroof Electrical problem?

Hmmm Weird problem here guys. My Friends 98 GTP SC sunroof won't close all the way. I am not familar with these cars, or sunroofs for that matter so I can't really diagnose what is wrong. Let me explain...

The sunroof will slide to the fully open position just fine, it will also slide to the closed position just fine, but it won't go down from that position. While this is not a big problem now winter is coming up soon, so this could become a huge problem if not fixed. There are no weird noises, nor any indication of anything going wrong. It just wont go down into the fully closed position.

While this may be unrelated, Her HUD isn't working as of recently. Could it be a fuse issue? Maybe the HUD and Sunroof run off the same fuse?

Anyways Get back to me when you can guys, I really appreciate the help. :th_winking:

Try lubricating the sunroof slides. It may just be getting stuck. If it still wont close then you might have a bad position module. I had to replace mine just recently do to it not closing properly.

Ill Try it man and Ill get back to you. Worst comes to worse, Ill head over to a local junkyard and grab a used sunroof motor.

Another possibility is an out of adjustment sunroof. Take a look from inside the car with the roof closed at the right and left sides. There's 4 screws. Are they maxed all the way up?

Sometimes if a person pushes on the roof it'll change the adjustment.

i didn't know the sun roof had a position sensor i beat that is my problem, maybe i'll give that a try seems a whole lot cheaper then buying a new sun roof, thanks for the info :th_thumbsup-wink:

Does anyone happen to have a part # for this sunroof position sensor?

The dealership I have had to car to to get work done was trying to sell me a whole new sunroof assembly. And in case you're interested, the cost for a new sunroof assembly for a 1997 Grand Prix is $3800. Ain't gunna happen. The car didn't even cost me that much.

Thanks in advance.
Stu
