New member
so i just did an oil change on my 99 grand prix gt 3.8 non supercharged car... and now it knocks????? it knocked before i did the oil change too but not as bad... the oil is up to level and i even used lucas oil stabilizer.....anyone know whats wrong or how i can fix it????? hopefully its not an expensive fix

THANKS!

also the exaust smells more like burning??? could be bad tank of gas???

catalytic converter has been removed by professional., new o2 sensor with emmulator and new spark plugs and wires.

Did you try using a thinner oil like 5-30 or 0-30?

That's not a good sign. Also cracked flexplates will sound like the engine is knocking.

i actually used a 5-30 castrol oil with some lucas oil stabilizer.... hasnt really gotten worse or better???? im new to owning a grand prix iom used to trucks... i dont know what a flex plate is..... is there anyway i can crawl under the car or something to see??? i dont wanna have to take apart the block but i will if thats whats needed to fix it... have only owned the car for a month now... no problems up until now....

Flexplate- Is what a flywheel is called on an automatic transmission.

What kind of knock? Take a video of it so we can hear this knock and better diagnose the problem.

Try using thicker oil such as 10-30 or 10-40 the thicker oil tends to quiet down problems but its not the solution to fixing noisy stuff.

Use Gear lube...like 80-90W...that'll get rid of any noise you have.

Kidding though...

Video FTW, like stated. Trying to diagnose something without hearing it is like finding a STD free whore in Canada :p
