Where are good places to place a floor jack on the rear frame of a 1997-2003 Grand Prix GTP? I have a 2000 GTP with dual exhaust.
Maybe it's just me, but I never trusted the pinchwelds. They look like they could fold easily... :th_sick1:
The Impalas have a little better jack stand/lifting point than the GP's do.
Since the Impala has the large aluminum cradle I found the front jack stand locations to appear adequate. Seems like when I did my brakes the rear points were quite solid as well. I didn't use the inch welds. After doing work on my sons GP, I've decided to have some steel boxes made to go over the jack stands to spread out the contact area.Same spots, though, right?
Since I'm looking at deploying sometime in the next year (nothing too bad, but gone for four months) I've been contemplating storing the Impala. I figured I'd either use the jack points I mentioned (use them all the time for various work on the car) or use something with a better foot print than a normal jack stand on those "frame contact points" aka pinchwelds. I just don't like the thought of pressure at the wrong angle making that area fold over.
Thanks to Sabrewings, IndeedSS & Syntheticshield for your advice and uploaded info. I will put the info. to good use. Rest is rare since my wife and I had our first child two days ago.
Regards,
gonna throw this out there....dont trust the pinch welds...mine fell today and i was under it idk how i moved in time but the pinch weld was hanging there when i got it back in the air
