15" sub

Well i believe after never being satisfied with a set of 12's i'm gonna go to a 15" Sub.

I dont wanna put a stupid ammount of money into it, but i wanna make your eyes water:th_thumbsup-wink:

Has anyone installed one 15 in our cars, and still have a little bit of trunk room? What box design?

I want to still be able to throw my bookbag, or duffel bag back there when i wanna go somewhere. Anyone got pics of their install?
Also, I need some recomendations on speaker and amp.
I've had american bass and Hifonics. A good buddy of mine ran his 2 American bass XFL's at 146.1 db's and rattled his rear windshield wiper off and his rearview mirror off in his tahoe. I know i cant get that loud, but whats your suggestions? I'm going to have to be custom on the box, so i need idears!

Having the coupe, its agrivating having to get stuff out the back seat, so i like having a little trunk room.
Suggestions?
Thanks guys,
-Scott

you need to pick a sub before we can tell you what box....

And to do that you need a budget.

Without that this will become like EVERY SINGLE thread in this section: OP asks vague question, all the "pros" come in and post stupid things for fun. :D

And making eyes water.... I dont think sound can do that.

I mean 130's start to mess with your breathing so....

well, i've got a wholesale guy i can get my stuff from. But i guess from the outside market, probally around 200 or so in the sub, and about the same or less in the amp.

somewhere in the price range of an American Bass XFL or so.
I'm not sure whats feasable for one 15 on db's.

Well these are plans for the future. I'm basically gonna put about 400 into it. I've got the supplies, and help for the box, if I can get some dimensions.

I have 2 s12l7 kickers in my car (them being square they have the same surface area as a round 15 inch sub) They rattle my car apart. Anyway id say a box volume of at least 2.5 cubic feet PER SUB enclosed. My l7's are in a very small bandpass box (1.32 cubic feet) and it sux. If you are looking for sound quality and just not all out db go with a enclosed if your looking for all out db go with ported or bandpass box tuned for your subs. I think the enclosed boxes are a richer sound. I also hate the sound of all the air rushing out of ported/bandpass boxes. Thats my view tho some might disagree with me. As for amps you get what you pay for if u buy a cheap amp it will be a pile of $h!t. I got a cheap amp for my subs and it was rated at 1700rms@2ohm mono class D amp. So I figured it was pushing about 90% of its rated rms watts which is 1530 rms. My subs are 750rms each and I know they are not hitting anywhere near as hard as they can. The more money u have the better sounding system you will have.

from what i've seen american bass are duds won't take power well and not that loud...

list of questions:
how much rattle you want lol?

how much power you want to run

how loud do you want to be?

also something you might want to think about even tho its kinda insane how often do you use the backseat?

and my 12s are alot louder than your friends tahoe lolz, theres a gp here in town that has 4 12s in a wall doing 148~ last time he showed

oh and yes 1 15 can do over 150db a teammate and the guy that built my box has been doing it for about a year now on 2kw holds the current recored with a 151

Well, i use my backseat.. on friday nights :th_thumbsup-wink:

so i dont want to take it out.
I wanna be loud, but im not sure what db's go along with what i've heard.

Basically, i want the loudest amp and sub, for 400 bucks.
I'll do whatever i can to fix all my rattles :th_thumbsup-wink:

idk about that, maybe they were set wrong? I have 2 12inch american bass XO's and they hold up nice, the XFL are the loudest damn things i've heard for that size (12's) and they are setup on a 2000 watt amp (Pure RMS)

from what i've seen american bass are duds won't take power well and not that loud...

As far as my car, I had 2 12's, but they finally gave up on life, so I decided to go with a single 15". I built the box myself out of 3/4" MDF board to the volume the woofer needed.
I was on a budget so I got a 15" Boss (cant remember the style/name of it) but it was 60dollars new on ebay, and I really do like it. As far as trunk room, there's plenty in mine, because the box fits right down there the spare tire used to be.

At first there was quite a bit of rattle, but with some foam tape, theres no rattle at all anywhere.

It pounds very hard, and all the properties on my Sub (2000watt, 2 channel, bridged) are turned all the way down (bass boost, etc.)

And as far as cost, since I already had the Amp, wiring, and the MDF board, it ran right around $80dollars, $60 for the sub shipped, and $20 for glue and carpet.

I knew a kid that had 2 fi btl 10's that hit harder then 1 15 and 3 12's all 3 sets were in custom built boxes that were tuned and everything. I would save up and go for the fi's
