• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

wadda think of this setup?

I still need to tuck up some of the wiring, gonna get that started soon, now that it's finally warming up. 2 infinity 12's 2 kicker comp 10's 2 infinity amps, and 1 1 fared cap. I'm gonna ad another 2 channel infinity amp as soon as my budget allows. problem is becoming the lack of space. and need at least one more cap and maybe a battery in the back?

dont add another cap change that 1 out with another that is a 5 farad cap that should work fine . also if i were you i would swap the 2- 10"s for another set of 12's . 10's just arent as deep as 12's in my opinion . other than that it actually doesnt look to bad from the pic. would be nice if that was all 1 box .

Ya I'm hoping to do some shop work finally, I actually had to do everything out in the street of my old apt. I bet my neighbors loved that, seats, and carpet, and dash lying all over the lawn lol. I just bought a new house with a nice 2 car garage so I can actually work on doing it right the first time. The 2 10's I pulled outa my last vehicle and they were just laying around so I figured why not. I thought that they would really mess with the sound quality, but with everything turned all the way down, the bass and mids, are super tight.

only thing I see is the one box is awful close to the surround on the one 12 (I like some extra space there myself)

I saved a little space by putting my caps in the pass thru. You've already lost the pass thru, so you may as well stick something in there.

I wish to god the 04 had that pass through. I am really debating about making a permanant one in mine. But hacking into the leather has me nervous lol. When I do I will post alot pics if it turns out the way I think it will.

I would suggest getting rid of the two tens, porting the box with the 12s, and replacing the cap with a decent sized batt. The lack of the two boxes will give you more space, less wires, and the batt will definitely be a better option compared to the cap which really doesn't help much.

all a battery is is a bad cap (they store energy, but can't discharge as fast) they are great for key off runtime, but not transients

When I competed in SPL we used Batcaps. Been a few years and I don't even know if they still make them but try looking them up. One of my old team mates had about 8 of them if your interested I'll look him up and see if he still has any.

They do still make bat caps, and are nice to use. I am on a bunch of audio forums and know people who still use them. As to the battery being a bad cap comment, anyone who is serious into audio does not use caps. They discharge too quickly, and store too little power. 1 farad is equal to roughly 1 second of power, nice little demo huh? Look into putting maybe a Yellow top back there instead of the cap and you should be fine. The stock alt is I believe 105 amps? So that, a nice batt up front, maybe a red top, and then a yellow top in the back should hold you over for a while. Batts hold more power than a cap and discharge slower so you can get more power out of them. If you need some good proof here is a link: Click here

I am on a board that Richard was a major contributor and he still recommended caps when needed (they are for transients not to band aid a weak alternator) check out CARSOUND.COM Forum - Powered by vBulletin also bear in mind I have been an IASCA and CMAA judge (when I competed if you had a second battery you lost points every time)

I saw very few SQL cars using caps when I competed. Just for the shear fact that it would put them in a modified class or didnt go with the install. Mostly the SPLers used them just because they "Burp" the subs. We had a monster 50 farad cap in one of our S-10s but yanked it out and replaced it with 2 optima yellow tops and got much much better results (helped it had an Iraggi alt). Guess it all depends on what you want. IMO if you want a quick fix to dimming lights I would do a cap or bat cap. Really no need in doing the whole 2 battery deal for a street banger. just my .02 tho

1)I guess that means Steve Meade, Dave "Danger Boy" Johnson, Gary Biggs, Micheal Hughes and quite a few other of my friends that I have met over the ears of competing and installing are not serious about audio. Also I guess that by default makes me not so serious about audio.

2)Putting 2 different designed batteries in without a isolator is horrible advice, in fact putting 2 different sizes and type batts together in any case is not very good advice at all.

I am not going to comment on which is better a 2nd batt or cap, because I think they should be used in conjuction. As do all the other competitors I mentioned above believe.

what is your opinion on my point of them being similar (only the cap is faster) I am just wondering?
