GT Coupe Seat Wont Lock Upright??

Hey everyone, I didn't know where exactly to post this... but anyway, I have a 98 GT Coupe and my seats don't exactly lock.

They stay up right and lock when you adjust the back to make it go up and down and also when you slide it on the track forward or backwards, but you can literally just push the seats towards the dash with no effort.

In order to get into the back seats you have to push them forward using a lever, which does not work, so the seats can flop back and forth.

Does anybody know how to fix this? Is there a simple way to solve it? Thanks.

idk if i took all that in right, but i know the seat locks into place when the nose of the car dips down at a certain angle, so drive fast, and slam on the brakes. and it should lock, and yes im being serious, i got a 98 gt too and it says it in the manual :th_thumbsup-wink:

Wow that is really really interesting. I just thought they were broken, but if your right thats great. I thought I had to replace them.

What is the lever on the back for then? To slide it forward?

EDIT: I didn't see that in the manual.

I think we might have the same problem. My '99 GT Coupe has the little lever on the back as well so that you can push the seat forward and then slide it up. But mine serves no purpose because the back of the seat doesn't lock when in its upright position. It seems like it tries to lock when you pull the lever to lean the seat forward or backwards though. And both of my seats are like this.

However, I'm yet to find a solution either. :(

well once the back rest is locked in place to where it doesnt flop forward and slide up, the little black lever on the back of the seat is a release. it unlocks the back rest so you can push that forward torwards the dash and then slide the entire seat up to allow acces for ppl getting in and out of that back

right, but mine doesn't lock in place like it should, as you describe. i think that's what jetscrazy is experiencing as well, but im not sure.

My seat would go flying forward if I slammed on the brakes, if I slowed down going downhill it would do the same thing. SO seats out of a 4 door fixed my problem.

all i know is that when you use the lever to adjust the seat back, it will lock in the position you want it to, aka it wont go back unless you adjust it.

on the other hand, you can just push the seat back forward and it will go back to the position you wanted it to be in

it just wont lock in a way that you cant push the seat back forward, the track locks and everything, i just dont think this is normal

right, so same problem then :)
now we need solutions lmao. cus i like my seats and i dont want some junk yard seats that have been exposed to the elements and had god knows whose a$$ in it.

My seats in my 98 coupe just lock in when they slide back enough. The lever is pointless, you can just move it and slide it again with your hand, but while driving it doesn't move at all so... that applies to both seats, with or without people in them (though the driver seat usually has someone in it when i drive =P)

Mine is the same way, I can just push the passanger seat forward without the lever, but when I am driving and slam on the breaks, it locks and does not move, there must be a g-force thing in there that locks it in negative g's (braking)
