anyone familiar with the various abs module 97 - 03?

I think I need an ABS module, so I went to the u-pull it. I found Grand Prix of my generation 97 - 03 and pulled the pump and module - looked identical.

Brought it home and found the unit I pulled was actually about 1/2 " shorter than mine.

So I am wondering: Anyone know how many variations are there and what do I need to look for on a 2000 GTP which I have to know I am getting the right one? May try to sell the one I pulled once I figure out what it is for!

thanks

my module needs to be replaced. what did you pull it from? i know that the replacement HAS to be from a GTP. nothing else. the gt or se abs modules wont work. and i even think they are year specific but not sure on that. they are pretty pricy too.

The module came from a Grand Prix GT, 3.8 engine - year unknown but same generation as mine. The unit looks very similar - I just assumed that all Bosch 5.3 units were interchangable.

then if yours is a gtp thats the problem. i ran up to the local junkyard looking for one when i found out i needed one and they checked the computer and it said its not interchangeable. even though they are just about the same. and i think the '97 wont work either. its more complicated than it should be..

I was reading that if you have magnasteer (which I think all GTPs have) a different ABS system is used. I think these ABS units send the vehicle speed to the steering system to determine if magnasteer should engage. I'm not sure if non-GTPs can have magnasteer. I don't know of any reasons ABS units can differ.

This is correct. You need to use the same system. You can check the RPO code sticker on the bottom of the trunk lid, if it shows NV7 then you have magnasteer.

Also the 97 is a one year only.
