Car Won't Crank..Again

I have a 99 GP GT. Dad just put a new upper and lower intake on today. New oil, new plugs, new coolant. When he put the new plugs in he said it wouldn't crank. So he took them out and turned it over to blow the water out and put them in and it ran like a dream he said. He drove it 22 miles to my house and parked it. I got off work and thought I'd take my new ride for a quick spin. Well, I turned the key and it grunted and acted like something was stopping it from turning over. So, I waited and tried it again. This time it turns over. But it's not even TRYING to start up. Have no idea what the problem could be. :th_frowning: I just went back out there again and it almost hit twice. Is it possible the plugs could have fouled yet again? the fuel pump is prmiming.
Gonna check it out in the morning and dad's supposed to be coming back tomorrow (well today technically) to help me fiddle with it. But as for now, any ideas on what could be my problem? :th_angry-pissed: I'm nearly in tears now.

Thanks guys.. again. lol

Where the cylinders full of coolant before you did the gaskets? Pull a plug out and see if it is full of coolant again.

I'm not sure. I asked my dad that today and he said that he had got all the water out when he did the plugs because he turned it over with them out and got it out. He said that it ran like a champ when he drove it home. And after he parked it he cranked it back up and he said it was doing just fine. But he said there could always be a chance of somethin little going wrong.
After work tomorrow I'll have the evening to fool around with it.

So, if I want to check the plugs how do I find out if it's full of coolant? I wasn't with him when he did it. But...anyways I need details I'm new at this. :p

Thanks guys!

Umm, if its full of coolant...I think your going to have more issues than just cranking it over to get the coolant blown out like the water...sure there isn't a vacuum leak somewhere either?

hm okay. and not that i know of. i haven't got to inspect yet but dad drove it 22 miles to the house friday night and he said it ran so perfect. so i doubt it. im just gonna poke around see what i can find tomorrow..

In a new warranty'd motor from a shop? I think you need to find a new place there jeeves.

noo. dad bought it from a friend that he used to work with.

How's your battery?

battery is good. i do believe he said it is new.

Did you change the upper intake aswell? Or just the gaskets? It is highly recomended to change the intake.

i'm not sure. probably just the upper intake gasket.

UPDATE: My dad came up tonight and worked on it. Took the plugs out and they had fouled [after 22 miles]. So we sprayed (something flammable i didnt see the can) and burnt off the grossness and the plugs smelled like pure antifreeze. Plus the oil level is reading too high. Then we turned the engine over once with the plugs out and especially in cylinder 1, it was a mix of gas and antifreeze (looked brown) spewed out on the ground. Here's the plugs BEFORE the clean and after he drove it to the house:

So we put the cleaned plugs back in and managed to get it cranked and it was just puttin up white smoke and it smelled like antifreeze. We ran it a good 10-15 minutes trying to burn it all out of there. At first it was rough and wanted to flood out when you gave it gas but then it cleared up and started running smooth. I idled it up pretty high then just let off and it had a rough idle then it would smooth back out. The last time I did that though it died and we called it a night until we can try to troubleshoot/fix later.

So the question is...why is coolant back in the engine after a new LIM.

We are curious what the torque specs are for the LIM (thinking maybe they're off and it's leaking coolant)????

Yea. We're gonna just start troubleshooting till we fix the problem. It's running aside from antifreeze getting in the engine. And I'm getting super impatient. Just got the inside looking so gorgeous today. <3
Anyways, my uncle had the same issue with his wife's GP. Antifreeze gets in the engine, fouls the plug. Clean the plugs, cranks right up and white smoke. Apparently his issue was a chipped plenum letting antifreeze slip through. So I think that's dad's next plan of action..

right. well i know one of the little square tower lookin things in the plenum had a piece like chipped out of it but it looked factory it was so smooth. and it was cracked in a place where the bolt goes through. also the square tower thingy was moving but idk if it is supposed to or not..
dad took the plenum and the throttle body with him to see what he can find out if we need another or not..i do know that there is antifreeze in the engine. an oil change should get that all out right? altho i hate to do that we JUST did an oil change.

yea it should get it out. i would just drain it then put any cheap oil and run it for about a week then drain it again to get any left over antifreeze or water. then put the type of oil that you want.
