Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

computer woes

well the last 2 weeks for me with computers has been hell to be honest.

My main PC (AMD Phenom 9850 based machine (can post stats if interested) has been giving my crap for a little bit now but was still working, I knew my memory was screwed up but for basic Internet browsing etc etc it worked ....then last week I can only guess the memory totally failed. OK sucks but not the end of the world.
so now I have my older PC (Intel P4 3.0Ghz HT) that has been sitting around for a while now and had to scavenge some parts of my main to get it to run and guess what will not boot .... notice that probably when we moved last year the PC took a shot to the case and the mobo was damaged ..... so ... now I'm annoyed ... so as we continue I have an older Compaq Laptop (Celeron 2.0Ghz) I have had for about 6 years but the AC Adaptor didn't work and the battery is totally shot so I get a used Charger that came off the same machine actually and it works ... for about 2 hours then the backlight on the display goes out .... ok no big deal I plug in my monitor ... then I fire it back up and it works .... next day I go to fire it up and the battery light flashes as well as the power light ... and no fire... so now I'm screwed .... so yesterday i'm in my Basement and find my wifes old eMachines (Celeron 1.2) she's owned for 8 years bring it upstairs and crack it open ... no IDE cables ..... this is a problem none of my other computers use IDE.... so ... a few more hours of digging i find a IDE cable and go for a fire up and i get memory beeps ... re-seat the memory and it fires .... so now I'm reduced to this damn PC untill I get some parts for my main ... lol [/rant]

build your own computer for like 250 bucks like I did, its easy and you can you can use some of the old parts from those crappy computers to save money.

yeah ive had memory problems with my computer too. i think its from keeping it on 24/7. i got a custom built one for pc gaming. but wat i did was just call the company and tell them there sticks were not working properly and this and that and how it hasnt been a year yet and they had me send the old ones in and get totaly new ones... happened twice and always works. i say get that done asap and also by a laptop that u would only use rarely which means wen the main computer is down. i still have yet to buy one but i will. i love my PC lol

best way to keep the computer running good is to turn it off at night so its not running in sleep mode and getting hot for no reason and to use CC cleaner or a form of cleaning up the computer memory of unwanted files every few weeks.

Or if you are truly looking for a beaut of a machine, which will not let you down and is fairly portable i must say, go with the Alienware M15x, sure she is a bit expensive but this thing is built! I spent $1800 and got 4 gigs of ram, an Nvidia 260m graphics card, intel i7 proc, 7200 rpm hardrive, and a slot load dvd/cd player. Also has a great sound system for a laptop. My screen res. is 1920 by 1080p. best screen on the market if you ask me! With a glass panel covering it. Or if you just want to do simple office work just build your own using Newegg for like $200 to $300. See good with computers but horrendous with cars...

RAM either works or it doesn't. Are you talking about your hard drive when you say "memory?"

nope talking about RAM, lol I've been building systems / repairing computers since I was in High School back in like 1994 ... even did it professionally for 4 years however I have tested the memory (actually before it fully died) using memtest x86 AND for good measure the Windows Memory Test program.... both came up with errors but I got a much more detailed test with memtest... and I think after everything, over 200 memory errors....then about a weeke later it fully failed. I gotta actually get some cash together and get some new chips and go from there.

Well, if you're looking to go cheap, I've got plenty of parts lying around... actually, probably enough parts to make a machine now (though, I doubt if I have any hard drives over 40 gigs now... ooh, also no extra PSU's). ...best CPU I've got is a 3800 (which ain't so bad on the DFI mobo - highly overclockable if you put in decent ram) - Both CPU and mobo are new, unused.
