3" down pipe question

im looking at a 3" downpipe with no cat, has no u-bend. how much would it cost to have an exhaust shop put that in? is the down pipe worth it? i dont know much about exhaust. thanks
 


It's only four bolts and some penetrating oil to take off. If you don't have a way to do it yourself, they shouldn't charge you much to do it. Depending on the state you live in though, they may not be willing to remove the cat.
 
thats what i figured. doesnt not having a cat throw a code? id rather have it since its not like its giving me all this extra power without it.. it wouldnt be much just to cut and weld the cat back in would it? because i dont want my SES light on. i live in minnesota, i dont think theres a problem here. but im moving to chicago next month and i think they do emissions.
 
yes, it will throw a code. You'd be better off finding a used catted downpipe if you're going that route. I just sold mine for like 90 bucks.
 
so it would be too hard to put a cat back into one without a cat? cause i can get a decent deal on a 3" dp with new o2 sensor and everything.
 
I guess I'm saying, instead of buying a DP without a cat and then adding one......buy one with the cat already welded in.
 


may as well just ask the shop that's gonna do the work. I think the shops in my area in Colorado wanted $100 to do 20 minutes of work... BS to me and I was planning on putting it in myself. ...that was just to bolt in the new one, not weld/cut.

Also, if you find one with a cat in it already, it'll be a more efficient (higher flowing) cat compared to the stock one. Try to find a catted one.
 
alright. but by the time i buy the new one with a cat it would be a lot more than getting a really good deal on one without. thats why i was wondering. do the ones from zzp come with the u bend delete?
 
yes. I don't know of an aftermarket downpipe that keeps the horrible factory u-bend.

you could be trading cost in the part for the amount of labor to cut/weld, which won't be cheap.
 


what ever you want to do. If you have a stock catback and you want it to bolt in, get the catted bolt in one.

or a tune/aftermarket pcm. a tuner (maybe you have a local speed shop?) can make the light go away. it won't affect the performance of the vehicle.
 


speed shops. are there any corvette or f-body perfomance shops around? anyone that does dyno tuning? if not, get a mail order tune and your ride will wake up too!... ~$100, but worth every penny.

i was told that a mail order tune isnt good if i dont have a 3.4 pulley or supporting mods yet. otherwise i wanted to. i would be able to cut and weld my own cat back in with that down pipe off the car so a shop wouldnt have to do that. idk we will see. lots of things to think about.
 
Where is oak grove at? I live in north IA and venture up to mn every now and then. I have a tuner. Also save your self trouble and get some headers.

really? well i live about 50 minutes north of the cities. i heard installing headers is a real ***** lol
