Cold Air Intake Question

Ok, let's just say I couln't make my own. Which intake would be the best to purchase with no modifications for a 1997 GT? Ill spend the couple extra bucks but is there going to be mods and such since its a 97'? Thanks guys.
 


i've had short ram, homemade fender well, wizair, and a gutted stock airbox.

Wizair was my favorite, no modification needed. My gutted airbox with drop-in K&N filter works just as good, just not as flashy/aftermarket looking :th_winking:
 
The Wizaired would be my choice. If you do go with it, you will need the 99-03 coolant bottle also.:th_thumbsup-wink:

ah yes i forgot. you need the 99+ coolant tank and reroute the tubing to where it connects on the passenger strut tower

no point in giving your engine more air if it has no way of getting rid of it. get a u-bend delete (downpipe) first

Already got the U bend delete.




And could someone redirect me to a site for the intake? And there's no intake in which the coolant bottle can stay where it is for the 97'?
 


And also I really don't care how it looks. Just simply performance I care about. Whats the best for the price? And do all cold air intake I have to remove the 97 coolant bottle?

Maybe for a 3.25" and lower blower car...but not a bone ass stock N/A one. It'll be slower.

If you want a decent intake and a stock look...get a SLP Ram Air Box...if not, like said...the Wizaird isn't BAD...but I'd rather have a K&N (even though it is pricey) but you don't have to deal with all of the box BS and crappy dryer ducting.
 
meh...im running open cone on my car now..and its just a stock L36 again.

I used to have the wizaird, it was a decent intake. held the pcm in the bottom nicely, had a spot for the iat sensor. but like nick said that crappy dryer duct sucks. you take that stuff off about 3 times and it starts falling apart.

Well, I have never owned a 97GP. But yes, it is my understanding that many (possibly all) CAI require addressing the coolant bottle location. Now if you go with a short ram intake you might be able to keep the stock bottle set up.

Also, this topic gets discussed here nearly endlessly. IMHO there is no perfect intake, they all have a weakness. I suggest doing a little research; you really can’t go terribly wrong with any purchased intake. However I have seen a few people go horribly wrong with cobbled homemade intakes.:th_nervous:

so if i wanted to put a short ram intake on a '99 GT, should i need to make modifications on the "downpipe" with a U-bend delete? or does it matter?
 
intake and exhaust have nothing to do with one another, but its to your benefit to get a downpipe.
