Speed Daddy Headers...Ticking...

Bedwards

Hey guys. I just installed my Speed Daddy headers, and I'm getting a really annoying ticking noise under acceleration. What should I do? I'm so fed up with this install. It has taken forever and has given me nothing but problems. I've heard the flex pipe in these headers can be the cause, but I've also heard of people installing them with zero problems. Could it be an exhaust leak?

Its an exhaust leak. I always thought it was my Y-Pipe but I never really cared to fix it. I didnt know the flex pipe was already a known problem. Hopefully its fixed after I change mine out.

header wrap? muffler wrap? i was thinking about that but didnt know if it would seal it up good. i have a leak there that keeps getting worse daily.

You sure the leak isn't from one of the slip joints? The flex is known to tick, but any leak in the slip joints will give you a tick as well.

You DID throw out the stock clamps and put on band clamps + copper RTV, right?

I'm going to buy band clamps right now.

minesomehow flexed with the flex pipe and my exaust was hitting the back of where it mounts by the bumper, i bent the hangers a lil and its ok now, other than that the speed daddy headers were great, with band clamps from napa. very small exaust leak at the flange, when warm its gone.

Gonna try adjust the headers tonight and re-tighten all the bolts to see if anything is loose. I doubt it though.

have u narrowed ur leak down at all? my flex had a slight tick to it... header wrap didnt do ****... muffler wrap from o reillys did.. its called tiger something, i forget. still have a small leak on back side of crossover which still has u bolt clamp. plan to tackle that this weekend. im just gonna wrap that same muffler wrap around the joint and band clamp it. tired of dealing with these leaks... went from leak free to 2 leaks in a matter of months.

It's hard to narrow it down, because I can really only hear it when I'm driving.

P.S. Getting a band clamp on the bottom part of the crossover is a HUGE *****. You will definetely need 2 people to do it, and it takes a lot of maneuvering.

if you put the clamp on the rear header THEN put the crossover in and tighten it its very easy. its hard to put on with the crossover already in though.
