Cam time

Ok, so i think ive decided on the VS cam, mostly because its a milder cam and that i dont want to go breaking timing chains and such, not looking to go all out just a little more. I know i will probably need springs, which ones? Also, is the JP timing set any good or am i fine with my stock stuff, it only has around 30k on it since replaced. I am good with stock push rods right? Thanks in advance im just trying to learn about the cam setups on here.

One more thing, will i need to tune for this cam right off the bat? I see on zzps website that it doesnt set the p0300 code, i plan on getting a PT soon so i was just wondering. Thanks.

stock timing chain FTW. stock pushrods are fine as long as yours arent worn too much.

90's would be fine for springs but i'd go for 105's since they cause less wear on the timing chain tensioner and you can rev it a bit higher (which is pointless)

Modded retainers? Where can i find those? Arent the ls7 lifters the ones i want? Mine dont tick but they have 100k on them cause i didnt replace them when i did the rebuild. Anyone have a link to those two things?

anyone who sells the springs will sell the modded retainers.

the LS7 lifters are the same as OE replacements for our engines, just cheaper to get them "for" an LS7 and you get two extras.

Yup. If you plan on just running the vs cam, just the steel will work, large cam needs the modded steel, if you have too much money on your hands you can get the titanium.

Also, im porting my heads. Would it be beneficial to get bigger valves put in by the machine shop after i get done porting them? If so, what size and will this change anything with my spring or retainer setup? Thanks.

DO NOT run a single roller. they have a higher rate of failure than double rollers do. FYI, the timing chain has never been broke unless the tensioner broke before it and took it out.

with a VS, no.

Ok so stock valves, modded retainers, lsx lifters, 105 crow cam springs, stock push rods, and stock timing chain will be good?

Have the p0300 turned to no report anyway. I had a gt1 in my n/a setup and it tripped the code more than once even though they said it wouldn't. As far as timing chains, I had just a stok replacement and new tensioner on it when I did my cam
