Does transmission whines when is about to give up or need fluid??

I still trying to figure where this whining noise comes from (its sounds kinda like supercharge, not that loud tho, but kinda the same noise) well, I ask this guy and he said it could be the alternator.... may be. but this other guy that he claims to know about cars told me that is my transmission......? really? Does transmission whines when is going to break soon? the whining noise I hear is only when I press the gas pedal, is not too loud but you can hear it. you hear it better from the inside with the windows up, if you try to hear that noise from outside, under the hood you can't really tell that good. So, do you guys think that transmissions can make whining noise when going bad?

the transmission will whine when its low on fluid, but it also will probably slip when shifting, hard shifts, and other weird stuff. i think you'd notice this.

i would suspect that it is either your power steering or alternator making that noise. check your power steering fluid.

Yes, thats why I don't think is my transmission because my transmission fluid level is good and my car shift gears without any problems, my power steering fluid is good as well, however, sometimes the fluid level stays good for a long time and sometimes I have to add a little every now and then. Someone else also told me about the alternator: if is the alternator, shouldn't affect my volts? charging my battery or things like that?

my alternator whined, but never affected my voltage. the only way you'd know would be to have a volt gauge hooked up (i did).

power steering most common whine other than S/C ... my PS pump used to whine.. i got some power steering stabilizer and to this day it hasnt done it anymore.

I may try that :) is that how you call it? "power steering stabilizer"? from any autoparts?

I vote for a failing power steering pump. Get a stethoscope and poke around the hood and find the noise.

I don't know what that is, in fact, I never heard that word before "stethoscope" is that chinese?? lol Sorry that word is not in my internal dictionary yet, my english is not 100% lol

If you can hear the whine when te car is running and you stick your head right by the driverside front wheel, then it's likely the transmission due to a bad pressure control solenoid. Have the car scanned and if you hve a p1811, replace the pressure control solenoid. If not, it's likely the power steering pump if it's coming from the other side.

I am having the same problem with my 04 GP. I doesnt make the noise all the time, but when it does it is when I am pressing on the accelerator. I have also noticed something leaking under my glove box. It looks kind of like transmission fluid. Not sure if or how it could be leaking in there.

I heard a car making that noise today haha, it was a 04 or up (because 04 and up look different than 97-03)

Seeing as you here it inside with the windows up better I am going to assume this is alternator whine. Do you by any chance have an aftermarket cd player/amplifier setup. Poor grounding of these components can lead to feedback in your speaker wires resulting in a buzzing or whining sound that attenuates from the speakers. If it does have an aftermarket audio system check your ground behind your head unit. I find that if you use the stock ground in the harness this can occur quite often.

That noise don't come from the speakers thats for sure, I hear it in front of the car (engine) I guess what I need to do is buy and return it if that is not the problem (or borrow an alternator lol) put it in my car and if that stop the whine then that was the problem... if is not then I'll try something else :)

I don't know much about cars thats why I ask... why the whining can only be heard when you press the accelerator? does giving more gas to your car makes the alternator go "faster" (or work more?)

could just be a bad bearing in a random pulley too. my tensioner pulley bearing started making noise and went bad, easy fix too

Ok guys, we found the problem (after a while) I was able to take my car to this guy who knows about cars and he told me that it was the alternator (I didn't want to take my car before because you know most mechanics charge you a lot just to check your car) So he was so sure that it was the alternator that he took one alternator off another gp and put it in mine just to prove me... yep, it was right! lol so simple
