Paint prep

TorqueAutoMotiv

donated to get this wow
Im looking at a few cars to flip a couple have crap paint whats the best way to prep a car before paint
Im thinking macco, miricle type paint job and i know they dont do crap for prep
i figure pull lights \ light sand and such anything else i should do

yea go to the parts store or paint store and get a box of red scotch brite pads a start scuffing then take the car to a paint shop, do not sand the car then ull haft to pay to have it primered and such and such and it'll prolly look ike a$$ with waves a gouges in it. thats all we do at my shop red scotch brite pad for the cheapys and beleve it or not they turn out excellent thats how i did a couple of my cars:th_thumbsup-wink:

I had a macco paint job a while bac looked like poo but its cause the prep and the painter but since im lookingto flip the cars mainly ill stick to stock colors and such make them look good

theres a few im looking at 02 cav 01 grand am 99 regal gs 02 yota celica
all need minor paint work just depends who drop the price enough
plus theres a clean red grand prix that needs a trans put in but its paint is sexy clean

Not to say you couldn't make any money, but those cars are not worth all that much (even in mint condition). By the time you buy the car, do all the body work, paint it, and fix anything else that it needs, you wont have much of a profit margin (if any).
Most people that flip cars buy newer models that are worth a lot more, but have some issues.

all of those cars listed have minor paint issues with decent miles and run BAsic tune ups and 250 in paint my profit margins would be around 500-1000 for a weeks work

This is just to build a bit a profit so i can step into the higher price range then basically do the ame thing and make 3-4k profit

theres a 99 tahoe for 1000 needs head gaskets easy repair they sell for 4-7 k
id sell for 3-5 and keep moving up

I have a pretty good idea on what im doing Ive done this in the past and was making pretty decent cash just never messed with body work

Paint must be cheap there! Around here it costs around 500 for decent paint. Then you would have to find someone with a booth to spray it for you (might get someone to do it for 250-300 or so). The safety inspection and emissions testing run about 100, and then any parts to pass inspection (brakes, etc). But parts are a lot cheaper in the U.S. With the laws here you can only sell 4 cars per year, or you will get taxed, but i dont know if you have anything like that there.

i think its 5 cars a year in ca but i have 5 names to sell under

Maaco paints cars cheep always having some kind of special I would be sticking with stock colors

Smog is the anly inspection id be dealing with and thats on the new buyer basically

Unless i was doing salvage title cars thats more of a head ache

scuff, remove lights, door locks, trunk lock, badges & let em spary

^ x2
And make sure you wipe it down with a good grease and wax remover. You should do some searching for a DIY shop in your area. Some of them have paint booths for rent. The actual spraying is not hard (just stick with light coats)

DIY paint store has a paint booth to rent but at the same time id need my own guns mask and all that If i was to do alot of it may be a worth while investment

My compressor at home isnt reccomended for paint guns or id be able to do some light work here
