Painting Calipers?

If my calipers are rusty can I still paint them? Maybe by using primer first? I want to try to give my wheels a cleaner look and if it looks good behind them that's a plus! Can I paint them as is?
 


Get a wire brush from Homedepot and scrub them and use brake cleaner like mentioned. Should work.
 
Should work fine, at least brake cleaner, primer the bad spots, and color of choice. Post up some pics when done.
 
used a grinder on the bad spots. wire brush for the small spots and primed it, painted with Krylon for Plastics...its heat safe. i taped off the body and basically painted everything. i like the stealth, but you can just tape it off obviously fro specific parts at paint time. 2 coats and i did last fall, lasted fine though the winter, front pass. has a spec of chip other than that, still looks good. i didnt clear coat it though, forgot grrrrr.

old paint, without any prep after 2 years... young and wasnt thinking, haha

ps: windex, is the best pre-adhesive solution. it's not really adhesive, but used that before paint.
 


I wouldnt paint the rotor that way.. The pads will wear it off,but will also more than likely screw the pads up

its not the best for the pads, i agree. however the paint will come off the front of the rotor the first time you use them as they heat up so i wasnt about to tape it all off. keep in mind i needed to change my pads, i wouldnt do it if you recently put on new pads. but this was much quicker, AND you dont miss any spots!

This whole part you painted is rusted out? Truly, is it safe to paint it all? I'd love to get it to look better than rust behind my wheels, makes a nice car look like crap!
 
i would of definitely sanded off that pain on the rotor surface before driving.. i mean i understand being lazy but man.. should of just went with zinc coated rotors or something. anywho, GR2 makes a great kit but make sure you sand off any rust first
 


sry, the first picture is before the grinding sand or wirebrush... NO--i would not advice painting over the rust. (the two color paint was when i was young and lazy and dumb, i just primed and painted... hense it chipping off so easy) SAND! SAND! SAND! 1. with out it, it wont stick over time 2. its not the right solution (the rust will still be there) i didnt get a picture of it raw before paint. all the rust was grinded off, and the paint was sanded or wirebrushed to bare steel. then primed twice and painted. and yes rust kills the look of everything. since i have very open rims, it was something i needed to take care of, and get rid of.
 
Look for a Dupli-Color Caliper Paint Kit. It comes with a can of spray cleaner, a can of caliper paint (no primer needed), a stir stick, a paint brush, and some masking tape. It comes in a few different colors, black, yellow, red, etc.
