Amp error?

Well on my way home last week I was cruising listening to music when all of a sudden my bass stopped hitting. I look back as I have the opening in the back seat open to see my amp off. Wondering what happened when I stopped I checked and the fuses on the amp had been tripped. Now I know I did not have an inline fuse which is my fault but I had been moving things around and just never put it back on. So my amp still works but under a small load. If I try to push it the light on the amp will blink and it displays an error of E-03. I have a Kenwood 25th anniversary mono amp. Is it toast or what? I think its toast but before I replace it I'd like to find out for sure.

you need to find out what E-03 means. check the manual. this should tell you what happened to your amp

Well I did some research (I don't have the manual but located a PDF version) and found that the E-03 error has to do with a speak wires grounding out. But the thing is that it stops working when I turn up the voume and the bass hits harder.

i bet the speaker is blown try another one:th_thumbsup-wink:

more power probably means better connection and more power grounding it out causing it to die. check your wires. im sure someone else would have something to say but id start by checking your set up for something simple like you drilled into a wire or something silly. just a thought best of luck keep us posted

lets think about this
he was bumpin
bass stopped hittin
amp was off
fuses on amp was tripped
can play at low volume

shorted voice coil= blown sub!!!!!!

Both subs work though?? They both play and the amp still works its just until the whole thing really starts to hit pretty decent. I'll double check my wiring and try one sub at a time just to make sure they work correctly. Thanks I'll give those things a try either tonight or thursday night and post back whats up.

well if it didn't blow all the way as it hits more the coil move thus causing it to hit that short that could be your problem,
i'd find a buddy with subs that take more power and hook those up and see if its the amp or sub
also if the amp dose it on my advice i would say it melted a wire inside the amp before the fuse blew and its not touching put with the more push it grounds out
thats IMO

this kinda happened to me. check your signal wires on your subs, and the voice coils. lol just varify that for us:th_winking:

Yeah I'll pull it apart and test it. If I pull it apart fully I may just end up building a new box before it goes back in because I just hate this box so much.

do this! trouble shoot! use another system to see if its the amp or subs, as in hook up your subs to another amp ans your amp to another set of subs ro whats not workin right. then go from there

i think your amp is goin into protection mode so it wont get damaged, so its probably the subs

don't put the subs on another amp if the subs are bad it might hurt the amp, (if its protection fails or has none) trade known bad for known good not the other way around

I think my first test will just be taking one set of subs off and trying one at a time to see if it does anything different. Then if that doesn't do **** I do believe a friend of mine has an old sub he's not using and won't give a **** if I blow it up anyways.

Well finally got around to figuring out what was up with the subs. Looks like one sub went bad and I had a few other things. I rewired everything and tested it and it came up with the same error on the amp. Pulled one sub and tested and it worked fine so I got a bad sub. I made sure to test the amp to its fullest and the sub. Looks like I'll be getting a new set of subs but this time I'll get 12's as they don't sell the 10's anymore. I liked these subs and for the price its buy one get one free for $150. Oh well I guess.

blown sub im betting just happened to me and a friend. but i took one of the subs out of the box and one of the connections was disconected hooked it back up and it worked like new

One of the connections was off but I wasn't sure if that was me or not. Its blown and right now is still in the box just not hooked up so I have some bass but not as much as I want lol.

the subs are just like these but 10's :Kicker CompVR 07CVR124 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com

My amp is: Kenwood 25th Anniversary XXV-03A Mono subwoofer amplifier 533 watts RMS x 1 at Crutchfield.com

I was really hoping it wasn't the amp because I couldn't find any that were close to that for a cheap price. I got 2 of the subs, that amp, a box and everything all hooked up for $300 from a friend. So far its all been great other than this happening. I'm guessing its just something that happens as I was just driving home and they just stopped.
