What pulley and plugs to get??

I went with the AL104 when I got my GTX. I have a 3.5 SLP Pully, 2.5 SLP Catback, Ram Air, Ported TB and SC, 180 Tstat, UBend Delete, modified 1.9 Rockers and a DHP Tune on my PCM as well.

I was going to switch out my plugs so I spoke with Lee, who I would say knows his cheese about plugs :) He told me to check my current plugs to see if smelled gasoline on them and check to see if they were burned or charded, indicated a not complete burn off of the gas at the sparkplug (if I am saying that right? I am sure Lee will gladly correct me :p).

I pulled a couple of the front ones out and they checked out OK. No smell of gas and they were actually quite clean after almost a year's wear on them. So I decided to stick with the 104's. My car doesnt seem to mind them to badly.

My Goal is to go to a 3.4, but I wont go there until I get my headers on my car. Once there I will have Trannyman do his magic on my PCM to really tweek it out and then see how a 3.4 would run on my car. But from all indications so far, it should be fine.

Pretty well done James.:th_thumb-up:

Thanks for the info!!! It really helps ppl out when you list exactly what you have and more importantly how the car is running WITH THAT SETUP. it helps me out sometimes anyway lol....nice car btw

Yep, when I bought my car he took the downpipe off and left the 3.4 on... I get a lot of knock if I go into throttle, so I conserve gas a lot better never getting on the throttle! When I ran the 1/4 mile I was pretty scared so I put some race fuel in it and it helped a little but I was still knocking.

I have coated pacesetters, flo pro resonator + manual cutout I just bought to put on it and I'm debating whether to do full 3" exhaust the same time or wait till I hear what it sounds like, eventually I will do the 3" when I get some more mods...

hey how do those pacesetters look(cheap or what)...i am kind of contemplating on holding off on the p-log and just get those...or headers in general....where'd u get those from and how much??

Well it is helpful to understand the Autolite heat ranges.

606 = Stock
605 = 1 step colder and good for stock motors to ~3.5 pulley
104 = 2 steps colder and good for 3.4 to 3.2ish
103 = 3 steps colder and good for 3.1 to farther than I'll ever go

If the plugs are too cold, the plugs don't get hot enough to burn deposits off of them which will lead to misfires as they accumulate. The recommendation usually is to run the hottest plugs you can safely get away with. So your best bet is 605s. If you have one or two degrees of KR with the 605s, you could try 104s. But you can see that 103s are for more hardcore setups.

EDIT: And I always like referring to Overkill's spark plug article.

That will feed your need for information. :)

you got a time on that car with those mods in your sig??

let us know for sure!!

hey before i start a new thread this is where im at...i want yalls opinion on something....

i am trying to decide between headers and a p-log with probably a stock rear manifold maybe ported in the future....

my goal for the car???....hmmm i guess i would be ok with 13.5 .....possible with a p-log and maybe a ported rear? with supporting mods maybe??

i dont want to go into the motor really or change any stock exhaust after the downpipe...these are the mods i would not mind doing in the future....intercooler....rockers....ported lim and sc...throttle body ect....i would like to keep the stock cam and heads and rear mani if possible...what do you think...possible??

my opinion is that it would not be worth the EXTRA 600 for headers...(i would want coated) and that that money would be spent better else where...

TIA I KNOW I CAN COUNT ON YA'LL FOR SOME HELP:th_thumb-up:

Do not get headers. With your goal, the plog/dp combo will be more than enough. Save that money for rockers and other mods. The rear PEM is not very important. If one falls into your lap for free, sure, but I certainly wouldn't pay $120 or whatever ZZP sells theirs for.

I'll quote from my favorite source for 3800 info, Overkill, about the exhuast:
"For mild-moderate setups, until you have a cam or run a 2.x" pulley size, the money saved by doing a Powerlog versus headers can go into modifications with bang for your buck."

And...
"A 2 1/2" downpipe with Powerlog will support bolt-on vehicles ideally. "

Your goals are basically the same as mine, except I am not going to do an intercooler.

Thats what you say now...................keep taking hits from the bong. You'll get hooked!
My plan was to run a 3.2 and no more, but now im modded to hell!

Not trying to start stuff but you better hope you havent fuked your motor. Thats pretty brave taking it down the track with little to no modifications. Roughly how much KR were you seeing?

ok cool that is what i was thinking considering basic engine knowledge and considering the times i wanted to run. just wanted some reassurance is all....

yea i would def. do it myself before i bought the rear pem from zzp...i have heard from somebody on one of these fourms that it is not worth it any way considering the difference between stock and ported.

yea you guys also helped me make the decision to keep the 2.5 downpipe also istead of returning it for the 3''...the thread is somewhere around here...

thanks for your input:th_thumbsup-wink:

yea i know thats what i said about my mustang 347 and i'll be fine....now it's gutted with a 408 soon to be going in it lol....

but i plan on getting my car into the 13.5 range or lower with stock cam and rear pem(done by myself if needed) and also stock heads....

my goal after this is to get a new gto....i want a dependable dd out of this car for now and i think i can do it with the help of my power tuner

NICE! Well your goal isnt too far off, get some rockers and you'll be set with some good tuning.

Thanks it will be some day lol $$$$....thanks for the support lol...
