I am helping my brother source some parts for his 04 Comp G. We are looking for some headers, doesn't seem to be a ton of options for the 04+ cars. So headers for the 97-03 GTP's fit on the 04 cars?

I have seen some recommend SSAC, I check out there site and again they are listed for the 97-03 GTP. I have also done of searching for headers on ebay and came across these.

OBX headers for 97-03 GTP
OBX Exhaust Headers 97-03 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.8L : eBay Motors (item 370337853882 end time Mar-20-10 22:23:39 PDT)

They seem like a quality piece for the price.

So are the 97-03 headers an option for us? What about emissions looks like these eliminate the cat we don't have testing but without the cat will the car sound like ****?

OBX headers require major modification to work.

Skip them and get the SSAC's

and yes, it'll still work on the 04+ cars.

If you dont have testing, and aren't worried about the fine, don't bother buying a cat, just use the pipe they come with.

If you're concerned about it, get a 3" I/O high flow cat.

theres only a small sound difference between cat and no cat so I wouldn't really worry about it.

Thanks for the quick reply!

For the install what am I going to need to complete it? O2 extensions I assume? Gaskets?

That really makes up my mind, I'm not going to mess around with fitment issues. Being an LT1 guy I know the drill all to well.

Out of curiosity why do they market them for the 97-03 it they fit the 04+ cars as well?

Because most of these companies are very stupid.

You need an 02 extension, maybe one for the rear since its an 04. Someone else know the answer to this one?

Gaskets, preferably GM or Felpro.

Red/Copper RTV.

You'll also want PLENTY of High Temp RTV...copper or red...whatever. I have used red for years. RTV every single damned place where a header piece slides or touches a flange (minus the head of course) so you don't have to worry about leaking. This is also a good time to delete the EGR since you can do it for 2 cents.

X 10 on the rvt and get 2, 3 inch and 2, 2 3/4 band clamps. The ones they send you are scrap. I made my own o2 ext. You will also have to take you rear vc off to get the rear mani in also you will have to rock your engine all the way foward and hold it with a rachet strap. I have these on my car with out a cat and it does't sound bad at all. You should get you pcm tuned after you get these in as well. There are a lot of people on here that can do it for you cheap. Reptile did mine and he was fast and cheap getting it back to me.

you 100% sure about the 2.75" band clamp? Guessing the headers just come with the typical U-Bolt clamps?

SSAC headers were ordered today btw.

Yeah those are the type of clamps you'll want but if the real ssac headers have the same pipe diameters as the dna ko's then you'll want 2.25" clamps for the crossover not 2.75"

Personally, I wouldn't buy ebay brand headers in the first place. Save up the money and get ZZP headers, the fitment is excellent on 04+.

if u want to spend money fruitlessly.... go for it. 220.00 shipped for 304 stainless headers that fit with no modification other then RTV, o2 extension and sway bar flip if necessary is unbeatable. theres a guy here on site having problems with ZZP headers fitting right... ssac and speed daddys are a copied design of slp design.... except they are slip fit. oh yea and they fit 04+ with no issues so far from 04+ owners here.

Well, there are some issues, but they aren't any different from SSAC or SLP. The biggest one being removing and bending the transmission dip stick tube. Also you'll have to bend an AC line about 1/2" out of the way. The fan shroud will be very close to the front center primary, so you may want to wrap that part if you're not going to get them coated. The O2 sensor under the car may contact the floorpan. If it does a hammer may be needed to make a little clearance. If you're keeping your EGR than getting the inlet tube to seal has been an issue. That's the last issue I'm working out.

well i have an 02 GTP i didnt have to bend trans tube. didnt have to move AC lines... fan shroud is close, i have maybe a quarter inch clearance from primary to shroud. i was gonna wrap them but why hide the chrome? so far after 6 months of driving nothing has melted or gotten messed up.....yet. o2 sensor yea i had to get crafty with a mallet..no biggie only took 5 minutes. only leak problem im having is flex pipe and the flex/downpipe joint. getting a new flex and havin that joint welded.. if i need to take motor out ill have to cut them. but with all this being said, 220.00 shipped to ur door for stainless headers is all im saying. these minor issues are easy to deal with.
