You should pull and fix/replace your diff immediately.
The pinion gear shaft is now floating back and forth, scraping the inside of the end cover, sending lots of alimunum bits throughout your trans. Eventually, it will cut through and piss itself out. You'll also have debris all throughout your trans, requireing a complete teardown, cleaning, and rebuild. If you catch it early enough, you might get away without having to do a complete rebuild. But most people don't catch it early enough cause they don't change their trans fluid frequent enough, even at 10K mile intervals, the damage will already have been done.
Did you bother to bust open the filter? If it is loaded with aluminum shavings, you can look forward to a rebuild.
This is the #1 cause of trans failures in my opinion, and a good reason to run a Quaife or GMR Torsen differential. It doesn't take much to break the pinion shaft retaining pin. You can easily do it on a completly stock engine setup (I did with only 7K miles on my car and no mods)
