Best plugs&wires for a 99 GTP

I am getting a few things done on the 99 as it is tax time and have some extra cash to spend. Whats the best brand for plugs and wires and whats the best sounding exhaust. I called a local shop and they said the Flowmaster 40 series sounded the best.

What the opinion here?

Thanks.

i got them on my car, i have a video somewhere of startup. i think they sound good. get autolite 605's.

So no use in getting the expensive wires? I have seen a few videos of after market exhausts on youtube and they sound pretty good. Is there a different brand that sounds better?

i like a more smooth sounding exhaust, which normally comes from a more high end muffler like borla. its all relative to what you like. hell, you may even be someone who is deaf and likes the sound of it being straight piped, raspyness and all.

no need for expensive wires... heres the video of mine but it sound quality sucks.. camcorder was too close to exhaust...

Now I like that sound in the video. I think I will go with the 40's and the copper plugs. Maybe even a K&N cold air set up.

Any other tips that can save me some money?

Thanks to all for the speedy replies!

I’d bet the farm everyone posting here has bought fancy aftermarket wires, but they didn’t make a performance difference. This forum loves cheap and dirty, duct tape and PVC. Anyway, one thing almost everyone agrees on is that GM made a solid ignition system, no real need to try to improve it for 99% of us. That being said any of the “lifetime” wire sets made for a GP will work just fine, I personally stay away from the universal sets. And the spark plugs also don’t make much difference unless you’re knocking. NGK TR55s or AL606s would probably serve you well.:th_thumbsup-wink:

the only reason to buy nice wires is because they take a beating and will last longer. however, if you get delco wires they come with a lifetime warranty and you can switch them out for new whenever you want.

But it gets old running up to the auto parts store everytime...so I bought MSD's and have had those things on and off about 10 times...no issues.

So the Autolite 605 plugs and MSD wires are a good combo. I have about $500-$700 to play with so I don't want the cheap stuff.

i have the MSD 8.5MM Wires with the Autolite 606 or 106 (not sure) plugs

and they are great! almost went alittle overboard and got the MSD Coils (Which i heard aren't good) and the MSD Ignition system lol
