Are these symptoms of a bad hub assembly?

Well my front end has been acting weird. Whenever I turn the wheel at a certain degree, I can hear my front driver wheel making a weird nose, like it's grinding or something. Today I had the wheel at that angle and had to press the brakes, and the brakes kicked back at me like ABS was engaged. It worked fine after I turned the wheel.


Also when I backed out of my driveway today and proceeded to go, I had the wheel at this angle. The car made a weird grinding noise, and I got a Low Traction Light for some reason.. :confused:

A couple times over this winter, I just turn my car on and it has the ABS light on and then Trac is off because of it. When I turn the car off and turn it on, it's gone and then it's fine...

Also, when I stop quickly, I feel the car around 15-10 mph, jerk forward. This is when only brakes are engaged..

Could this affect the speed sensor and give me the random spikes in speeds in my HUD too?

Yes you have a bad wheel bearing or 2.
 
hmmm would that mess with my speed sensor? How do I go about checking if it is bad? I heard you jack the car up and then try and move the tire? Or something of the sort...
 
jack the car up, put your hands at 1 and 7 and wiggle. If there is significant movement, then its a bearing. If you hear the grinding noise on the driver's side, then it's most likely the right wheel bearing (I believe, correct me if i'm wrong).

I don't know about those other symptoms. Best way to describe a bad bearing is a growling noise.
 


That's correct. When you turn left up to speed it takes the weight of the left bearing so it stops grinding, and when you turn right the grinding will become a little louder indicating a bad left(driver side) wheel bearing.
 
if you're not sure what side is the bad bearing, jack the front end up, put an old rim under one of the front tires so it cant move and the other side can still spin freely. Get in the car and start it up, put it in drive, step on the gas a little. If you hear a lot of grinding, thats the bad side. If you dont hear anything, then the bad side is the one thats got the rim under it. Hope that helps
 
Thanks colossus, I'm actually gonna go to one of my dad's good friends and get it fixed. I'm also pretty sure it's a bad bearing because the Tahoe we just bought had the same symptoms and it turned out to be a bad bearing. We'll let you know after tomorrow. I'll also ask where he gets the hub assembly. Have you tried autozone or similar? Not sure if they actually have any but it would be the first place I would go.
 
I replaced the front bearings and got them from advance auto parts...They were national bearings brand...I saved about thirty dollars relative to the cost for the OEM part from GM...Also the clip for ABS sensor was metal and not plastic as was the case from the OEM.
