My car is mostly stock and have been battling high amounts of KR (5-8*). I know that the original pulley is still on there, but notice through my scan that at WOT I have gotten up to 9.11 lbs. of boost. I believe this is related to the high KR and was wondering what other factors that could occur over time would increase boost to that level. From what I have read, stock pulley usually generate between 7-8 lbs.
Apparently i post false info, so here's the truth. You're running wayyyy to much boost, you should get a bigger pulley so you can get down to 7-8lbs of boost ASAP or your 5-8* of kr WILL blow that engine up! I'm surprised that you haven't thrown 3 pistons straight out of the hood man. Also something to consider, you could go get it tuned by zzperformance.com, they are the best tuners out there. Or you can go to INTENSE-RACING.COM They are the leaders in 3800 specialties, they should be able to take care of you!
so your answer is either to get it tuned by zzp or get a smaller than stock pulley? Here is an idea: find out what is causing the knock and fix it. There is no way short of a terrible tune( i.e. advancing the timing through the roof) that you should have that much knock with a stock pulley. Find what is causing the knock(or if a sensor is bad) and fix it. And for the record zzp might do ok with custom tunes, but they have been known to blow motors with their canned tunes for our cars, so I would stay far away from them for tunes. They just cut it too close to be safe, IMO...Apparently i post false info, so here's the truth.
