Oil Oil Oil rant bout it....

royal purple is around 8-9 bucks a quart and suposed to be some top teir stuff
amsoil's only real competition

I usually ran mobil1 but after breakin is done i dont know what i am gonna run i just know im going to maintain this engine and trans as if it cost more then i made this year

I'm going to switch to Royal Purple on motor, trans and they make a coolant additive and see what happens. Apparently magazines have dyno test the change to an extra 4 whp, sounds too good to be true.

I run Mobil *regular* oil.... been that way all the life of the car... looked up the service record from the dealership i work at, and where it was bought from... i know shes been maintained.

but Mobil 1 10w30 is 9.51 per qt, plus tax and this is at a GM Dealership... its usually around 6-7 /qt at most of the auto stores in town, and 22 for the 5 gallon jug at walmart

Royal Purple and Amsoil is a lil too much for my wallet, if i could afford it regularly id prolly opt for it, mobil 1 will be after this summer when i tear the top off the car and replace the LIM gaskets and whatnot, just peaked 72k so i figure 75k in the summer would be prime for the gasket replacements and a upgrade on oils

Its kinda wierd the price flux of oils across the country
rp last time i was at pepboys was 8.99
mobil 1 synth was 6
Im pretty sure im going to run ams or rp

yeah i do royal purple synthetic with a royal purple or k&n filter. runs me around 9 bucks a quart and i change it every 3000 miles, sometimes i let it run to 4000. people say its good for up to 10000 mile oil changes but i dont mind doing it every 3000.

mobil 1 filter and k and n filter are are like 99.9999999999999 percent the same.. k and n just has the nut on the end of filter... mobil 1 is a few dollars cheaper.

The only motor oil problem I have ever personally had is when I used some regular Mobil for an oil change back in the fall of 1995. At the time there was a huge buzz on how great M1 was, so I figured I would try out the regular stuff. I was in college, no money for synthetic back then. Well, the first thing I noticed was it coated my dipstick with a layer of varnish that I couldn’t wipe off. It was like micro crap that was very coherent to the metal, did the same thing in the valve train. At the time my car was less than a year old, and had been clean as a whistle. Well, that winter on a cold morning I started it up and screech came out of it like I have never heard before. Sounded like the gates of h#LL opening up! Well, that night in the freezing cold I changed to Castrol oil, problems solved. END RANT:th_winking:
