Need some advice...

I got my car back today from my buddys shop the code wasnt cleared for the cam sensor but he gave some advice on where to find the problem.. We fixed the broken engine mount stud (drilled it out and put a nut and bolt in) and a couple other things... While we were working i was kinda hinting on an internship and we were talking about how tight things are all over His business partner came over and wwas joking if i was a real mechanic yet and bull****tin a bit..

My question is do i approach them together or talk to his partner the majority owner of the shop Or try and go through my friend?
I have been going there for mainly exhaust work and a few otherthings when i didnt have the tools or knoledge They specialize in exhaust but are a complete shop that does a lot of race cars and oldschools aswell

I was also thinking of being very upfront with them and offering a free of pay trial period (in the cooking industry we did alot of this basically a extended interview)

Any Ideas

where is the tune from, i want that and a cam.....what i did while i was in school for biomed, was to go to a hospital and ask about voluntering 1 day a week. i only worked 2 dweeks(2days) and was then hired as a student. thats been 1.5 yrs now at student rate, but before the end of jan. i;ll be at the appropiate rate. just my $.02

well from what your friend is saying hes detouring you from that idea. and the majority owner isn't thinking much of it and just joking with you so thats a toughy. I would have talked to the owner about it. then a couple minutes after tell ur friend wat your trying to do then when he gives his two cents just say u already talked to . . . Bob or whatever his name is.

Go and talk to the one that does the hiring. Don't try to go through anyone else. If the majority owner does the hiring, talk to him. He knows you and I'm sure knows about you. So go and talk to him and state your case.

As for the free working period, that is one of the best things I have ever heard of to get a solid job. Not many business owners are going to turn down free help. Even if you don't get a job because of tough time or whatever after the free working period, you get good experience, and if you are a good worker, you get a good reference.

Yea i was mixed in feelings on how to go about it but im just going to go in and talk to them and put the cards on the table. And i know times are tight but they have cars pouring out the shop doors so Im going to offer them a deal they cant refuse I need the "real world " Exp so I am willing to offer my time at a few days a week for free

And as far as him triing to deture me thats just how he is plus im guessing he doesnt know im serious cause he knows i do side work and what i charge

I have a intense pcm with the s1x cam and stage 1 heads
The car only have 40 miles on it since the rebuild but it feels like a diffrent car
My buddy at the shop said on his test drive he broke the tires loose at 35-40mph It has a weird stumble in the idle but that probably has to do with the cam code its throwing

i wanted that cam , but i believe i'm gonna get a vs cam. me and nephew will do the heads porting/matching, but i'm going to have a custom tune done by a 3800 person."blowfish"has offered to help and also "lawngoose" so when the time is right , i'm there.

youl definatly love the get up and go the car has I actually wanted a overkill pcm but after a month of triing to get a hold of him i gave up

Id lay out it out and see what they think. IF they say things are to tight right now then ask if they will keep you in mind after the economy gets better. Good luck with that!

One of your problems is doing the side work. A lot of places frown on that.
They have plenty of work plus they know the basic work i do on the side isnt stuff they want in the way of there bigger jobs
Ive actually talked to them about it in the past and they said most of their mechanics do side work
plus on all jobs i cant or wont take on i send to my boys shop any how
