hello. i am wanting to get new speakers for my 2006 base model grand prix. the local radio shop is running a deal for eclipse speakers. i have never heard of them but the shop said its the best brand they sell. i can get the fron to and rear deck speakers for $100 a pair. is that good? and is there a better brand i should look at.

all i want is a nice upgrade to my stock system. i want to keep the stock head unit and dont want to up grade the alternator. so i am just thinking speakers. does this sound good?

thanks.

if it is not apparent all i want is good sound save some money. and good bass with out a sub and amp with out an after market head unit.

Eclipse is an awesome brand. One of the best for head units in most mass produced units. Speakers are good from them too.

i had a really nice eclipse HU earlier in my gp's life and was happy with it. i don't know about the speakers but im sure they will be a upgrade from stock

thats a good deal id get them ive had tons of eclipes stuff in my cars over the years never had any issues with their products

good bass without an amp... Not possible if you're keeping stock locations unless you're only looking to hear the midbass. Or just some of it :)

well let me say this. my stock speakers sound real good to me. i am wanting to upgrade because one is out. but before it went out i thought they sounded good with bass. just had to keep volume low. so if it will do the same as stock but go louder i will be happy.

do you think it will?

thanks

do you have the monsoon system?

If yes, then no, it'll have a soft clipping.

If no, then it might, not sure if the base head units have soft clipping.

Soft clipping basically means, no matter how much you crank it, it just doesnt get any louder and won't clip.

And that word sound good? What power would I need for 2 8" ? And would the stock head unit sound fine pushing the front speakers? And then some amp for the rear subs?

If you have subs, you need a small modest amp for your front speakers... its just how it goes.

Look for an amp that will do 2 x 50 watts RMS at 4 ohms for the front.

Those should be cheap as dirt.

Yes and no...

Yes, you'll need 2 amps.

It won't hook right up to the stock head unit but...

The best bet is get a LOC and hook it up to the rear speaker wires in the trunk.

If you're smart about your amp shopping, you can get an amp that will take high level inputs so you don't need to buy a LOC.

To buy some 10" subs and put them in your trunk... which will just fail.

What I just suggested means you keep 95% of your trunk and you have better bass than most people.

thanks

Also, DO NOT BUY ANY DYNAMAT! JUST DONT! there are other ways to fix the rattle... Smarter ways...

Matt, i honestly dont see how u can say 10 in subs in the trunk is fail.

In your house, setup your sub in your closet then close the door and tell me how it goes for you.
