Need help with intake!

Hey everyone! I just got a 2004 Grand Prix GTP a few weeks ago and I'm looking to put a CAI on it sometime soon.

I've never done any modding before, and I have a few buddies that can help me with harder stuff, but I know I can do the intake myself. My question is: Where can I get a good kit that includes a heat box/shield and tubing for $100-$200? I bought a chrome spectre cone filter awhile ago, so I was thinking I could use that as part of my setup. But If I need to get a new filter that's fine also.

I know the first thing you guys will tell me is to build my own, but I'm much to lazy to build it all myself and I don't have anyone else I can con into doing it :D

If anyone has some suggestions, please let me know!
 


welcome man, and we have a thread on here for making a homeade 4" cold air kit. very easy to do with parts from a hardware store, under $50.....spend that $$$ on exhaust.....use the "search" button on the cai.

lol... thats what i did. i used the factory pipe and cut it right after the air temp sensor and clamped a cone filter on. didnt cost me a thing and took me a whole 10 minutes...
 


At the moment I don't have a cai installed. Should I get the wizaired kit or just cut the factory tube and clamp my cone spectre filter on and run it to the air filter box?

Dont cut anything. Just clamp it on the end of the mas air flow sensor. The big sensor in the middle of the intake tubing. Just on clap the factory hose and put you filter there.

Oh ok. What about a FWI? I heard those were the best option, but what are the downsides? I live in Iowa so the winters can be a little rough, I don't want the filter in a spot where stuff will get in it!

I run a maf separate from the throttle body like your year has. Just do something like this. Where in Iowa are ya? If you are close I would be happy to help ya mod.

What he's talking about is removing all the pipe and the mass air flow and putting the cone filter straight onto the throttle body. Honestly, you probably shouldn't even worry about that yet, this is usually done with intercooled cars

Oh ok.. Haha pictures are always my friend. I'll have to give it a try! Will my spectre filter be good enough? Also I live in the Quad Cities
