• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I sure hope I'm in the right section for this

First off I'm new here & very excited to be a part of this forum. :th_wave:
I consider myself to be pretty knowledgable when it comes to cars, escpeically being a female with no real mechanic experience but I'm FAR from an expert.

I have a few problems with my 04 Grand Prix GTP. First off, the popping noise. I did do a search but everyone seemed to mention it only happening at slow speeds. Mine is ANY speed. 25, 55, 70 mph you name it. My car is popping. Its coming from the front drivers side I know that. :o I've read struts, struts mounts, control arm bushings you name it.. I don't even know where to start! It started right after I got new tires on it so I was going to blame the tires but after doing some research I've concluded otherwise.
I also have a really bad creaking noise that happens when I'm turning.. now thats at low speeds. I don't usually tend to take any turns very fast. Haven't figured out where the sound is coming from though. When the car is stationary and you turn the steering wheel there is clunking again.
Also, the biggest concern. Recently on a short road trip we were on the highway, going 70-75mph and the whole back of the car started swaying from side to side. Sway bar linkage or sway bar would be my best bet.

Theres just so many problems and they all started happening very close together so I was hoping they'd somehow all just be tied to one culprit and end up being a less expensive fix but I'm not so sure :(

sway bar is easy to inspect, jack it up and take a look.

Theres bearings everywhere so your hubs could be shot, your strut tower mount bearings could be gone. Its either take 'em apart and look, guess and replace or bring to a shop.

Wait a while and see what people here come up with first though.

I am in the Battle Creek area... I searched for "sway bars" and came about your post. I just replaced both my front wheel bearings, rotors, and pads because of a loud humming noise. It worked and the car is running really well. HOWEVER I do notice not necessarily a popping noise but there is something coming from the front side and when I was changing the passenger wheel bearing I noticed that the sway bar had totally detached right at the linkage. I think the linkage is connected to the control arm and when I hit bumps, it pops against eachother. Anyway just my two cents... but what I sould do is look under both sides and check your sway bar and buschings.

The actual sway bar has been known to break clean off with the sway link attached and make noise. Ball joint control arm bushing tierod it's hard saying without seeing it.

Thanks guys! Hopefully tomorrow I can get it jacked up to take a look.
