1999 GTP with Whipple W140AX - 537 WHP

for those that are better researchers then me i want a 10 sec car like to rebuild the 1999 gtp whipple but i also want to be able to drive my car everyday i cant find andthing else on this car so anyone runnin 10 1/4 help me out

Turbo it...unless you have LOTS of time, money, and patience for the Whipple build. You NEED a huge intercooler, bigger injectors, a crazy good tune, and built bottom end to handle the 17+ psi that thing puts out...and anything less it isn't in its full effiency so it is probably hurting you more than anything.

If you are dead set on 10's turbo your car and buy a transmission from Dave @ Triple Edge Performance and put slicks on it...The whipple won't get you 10's unless you have more than 10 grand IMO. It sure is cool though...I'd like to do it...I talked to Paul over at PRJ for awhile about it but didn't go through with it...

its not the money im worried about i have two motors gt and gtp and dont care what i have to spend i got time to save up i need a ten to beat a friend so is it possible to make a everyday driveable grand prix a 10 and where is the best place to start parts wise

if youre shooting for 10s youre starting with the wrong platform. youre going to need a big turbo build and LOTS of spray.

i wouldnt even attempt trying for 10s.

fox body mustang-$2000
5.3 ls motor-$800
turbo 350 trans-$300
fabbed up turbo kit-$1500
9 second car for under 5 grand, suck on that turbo GP :D

its true. my friend has a turbo ls1 fox body. that thing HAULS. its almost scary how fast it is on the street.

thanks for the info guys ill injoy blowin by these kids in my car till i get another one but i plan on a 69 gto for the next project time to get started i guess lol

I dunno about everyday driver, but turbo tim at zzp took the 8 second ttgt out to get ice cream with his son and he said he was pretty surprised about how well it drove on the street lol

Turbo Tim...that guy...*sigh*

Anywho...I mean...it is all in the cam and tune to make it streetable or not...my XP setup was straight NASTY...and it was brutal on the street. Tuned to go fast...thats it. It probably could have a been a very tame car for the most part but who wants a nice, calm, cammed car?

Not me...plus the Whipple does nothing but add a piss ton of boost and is about 3 times the size of the Eaton.

well the whiple is a diffrent kind of blower also. it actully compresses the air insted of just speeding the air up like an eaton. its alot better designed.

That would be Matt and i guess he's going to make it more streetable for next season, although its going to have a different cam and larger stall but its his life.

Yeah, you shouldn't need spray though with a stattama kit or a larger turbo kit, they basically hit 500whp with any cam but the trouble is putting the power to the ground on these cars. And speaking of turbo tim, he had a small turbo kit, pt60/61 turbo and a st1 cam that he went 10's in. They have been in the business for a long time for a reason.

As far as a whipple kit, its just not reasonable like everyone said. Here is the car you are talking about and they don't even like to discuss how much money is going into the car. ClubGP Message Forum troubleshooting

Wait...what?

Centrifugal supercharges like the procharger and vortech blowers BUILD boost...and their boost keeps building as the RPM's increase...or...as the speed increases.

It is the Roots style blowers that aren't as efficient as RPM's and speed increase...

the whipple is not much better than an eaton on low boost levels. they dont really start to shine till 17psi plus.

its been proven time and time again on cobra's

in speed i was refering to the speed the blower is spining. on a 15 psi set up an eaton could keep up hp wise, but spin a whipple to 20+ psi and it really starts to come alive make alot more power.

i dont know i heard that they have a little bit of a lag period. similar to a turbo but of course alot less. just what i heard
