top swap or turbo

selliott

I break stuff
I have a 97 GP GT that we are putting a 2004 NA 3.8L into it I already have a T61 Turbo and intercooler. Which is better to do a top swap and go supercharged or go turbo? Turbo seems to make more horsepower for around the same money or am I wrong. I will also be doing headers, cam, heads, pcm reflash, fuel pump, injectors etc. Along with a trans to support the power.

M90 is good up for up to 350whp, anything past that a turbo is your best option. People seem to think that turbo's are so expensive, but when you compare a similar hp m90 build, its about the same. I like the fact that its a bolt on 12's, rather easy to install turbo when you have the right piping.

I agree, I was working on a m90 build heads/genv/cam/intercooler/blah/blah/blah, and realized im right at the price of a turbo plus i got a good deal for mine so the decision was simple less work more hp! and better streeability.

a completely maxed out m90 setup will run about 350+ whp and MAYBE run high 11s if you know what the hell youre doing. a turbo setup will do that with ease and run low 11s and faster so long as you know what youre doing.

either way you need to know what youre doing. its all in the tune.

any suggestions on the tune? I'm all ears! Like I said I already have the T61 and an Intercooler and Pacesetter headers. I'm open to suggestions on the rest.

the crossover will go with the stock manifolds or front/rear powerlogs ONLY. you cannot use those headers if you want to go turbo.

the exhaust is piped into the turbo. the headers will route the exhaust to the wrong place for a turbo setup.

i think you need to do a little more reading, home slice.

Agree with Bio a little bit more reading is in your future on this one

plus if you did get the front header to work some how, its still only mild steel and not stainless. even though you dont need stainless it will last longer

if you can pull it off more power to ya, but from what is coming out of your mouth its hard to believe you.
