1404 code and EGR Valve

Good Lord James, you have got to get your notebook legible so I can start reading it whilst I put it on the internet for everyone else. You are just chock full of fantastic information.
 


meh its the curse of being single for 8+ years (last gf pissed and moaned about me spending $$$ on a welder when she wanted jewelry...buh bye!!!!)
 
Update: I performed the steps as required. Now I get two codes
P1404
P0403 -EGR Solenoid/Circuit malfunction

I did some research and it appears not so much to be the EGR but the "motor" on it(?)
Another issue could be a bad ground.

Research still indicates replacing the EGR won't fix the issue. Suggestions?

This has gotten really annoying. :( :(

EDIT: The "Motor" is I believe was for a Nissan, so you can scratch that off.
Page 63 of the document shows a diagram of the EGR. Does this help? No. Just showing it.

i'd run the steps again.. clearing both codes obviously :)

Well, I repeated the steps and the P1404 didn't come back for a while.

However, I got a P0171 and another P1404 code code thrown just yesterday. I'm going to nickname my car the "code generator". That's 5+ different codes so far from the car.

I followed the directions with the first link. The second link had a post where an EGR was the problem. With three code all pointing to the EGR, I bet the next code will say "Look, you cheap bastard. Replace my EGR value".

I think this is a clear indication I just need to replace it.
 


I doubt replacing it will help unless the valve itself is leaking. Get a can of seafoam and run it through the vacuum line it will show where the egr leaks (nice black smoke)
 
Ha! found the issue with the P0171 code.

I changed the EGR valve and the P1404 code hasn't come back but the P0171 does (Vacuum leak).

The culprit is the hose connector broke off going from the S/C bypass value to this 3-prong connector that sits on top and to the back of the supercharger. Its the piece that is connecting to the brake booster.

Just curious on what the technical name of this is. Was going to get one from Murray's tomorrow plus a new hose.
 
the 3 way piece on top of the s/c? you'll not likely find that at murray's... dealer or used parts...
 
Called the dealer.
Get this. They want $240 for that small plastic piece.

This is officially the most overly priced item I've heard form a dealership.
 


They're out of them.

Called another dealership and they are $6.00. I'm pretty sure that other dealership got it wrong then.

I should be good to go now.
 


I too had recurring P1404 codes, combined with P0404 codes. Turned the problem was a bad vacuum hose to the evap purge valve! $.50 of vacuum hose will fix it, or you can spend $25 for the replacement hose assembly.
