6 Bolts or 5?

Okay this is really irritating me. I'm trying to take my motor out so I can replace it with a new one. But the darn motor wont seperate from the tranny. I've unbolted 5 Bolts holding the motor to the tranny. Chilton manual says there's 6. I can't find a 6th bolt anywhere. (I got the b**ch bolt out). :th_angry-cussing:

if you got the ***** bolt out then the other one is somewhere on the front side. also, did you disconnect the flex plate from the transmission?

In general, it's a flexplate with an auto and a flywheel with a manual.

Did you get the bracket on the differential off?

To pull the engine...

W Body:
2 15mm bolts holding the engine mount to subframe
4 13mm bolts holding diff cover bracket to engine
5 18mm bolts holding the engine to the trans (one comes in from the passenger side and can not be seen from the driverside)
3 18mm bolts holding the flexplate to torque converter

Once those are undone, support the diff end of the transmission or it'll put pressure on the engine and won't want to pop apart.

H body is same as above except eh 2 15mm holding the engine mount to subframe is replaced by loosening two 15mm under the TA body side mount and removing 2 15mm from the top of the body side mount after removing the one main TA engine to body mounts bolt with a 15mm and 18mm. The H body requires no transmission support. It holds it's transmission nice and level.

sorry to threadjack but billboost37, whats a good way to support the diff end of the tranny? als what about the cradle bolts? does it get loosend as well or no? im planning on swapping motors out as well. is there anything i should uninstall on the old motor to make things easier(already got the LIM and M90 off).

Bah the hijacking LOL. I finally got my motor out! The motor mounts are all but destroyed. Anyone know where I can get poly mounts from(other than zzp)?

sdgtp99 sorry to had threadjacked your thread.

what did u end up using to hold the passenger side tranny in place? did u just took the motor out or both the motor and trans? did u leave the front tires on as well as left the oil filter housing in place? details please :-)

the tranny is still in the cradle resting on the frame and is still bolted in. I took the motor out the top. Messy but it came out. Was easy too, just had to avoid hitting glass. I plan on gettin solid motor and tranny mounts soon seeing as mine came out in chunks = /

Oh yeah I used a jackwoth a wood bloc to hold up passenger side of tranny. Wheels are still on the car. Heh

whats a "jackwoth"? hmm i may try to attempt to do it on my own. did u uninstall the oil filter housing neck when pulling the motor out? also what areas did u attach chains on the motor to lift/hoist it out? lastly for the time being, how long did it take to lift the motor out and all? THANKS!!!:o

edit-what glass?!

also how did u unbolt the flexplate bolts? i imagine from the area after removing the dust stroud/cover? if so, do u rotate the motor via the crank pulley bolt or do u have a very long and thin wrench to loosen them all?

you have to rotate the flex plate until you see one at the bottom. take out the bottom bolt. repeat. it takes a little while, but thats how you gotta do it.

FST please understand that I'm saying this in the nicest and kindest way. I think you should post and ask if someone in your area with a little more experience is available to help show you some of the ropes. Sounds like this is your first time and having someone with experience on hand would be a great help to learn and keep you safe. Sometimes we make beginner mistakes that hurt and bleed quite a bit, I'm hoping to save you some of that blood and pain.

no offense taken, i already asked locals around me as well as posted needing help on a few forums but to no avail which seems my last resort is doing it myself unfortunately

Not a problem. Keep some bandaids handy and we'll walk you through it. Do you have a thread n this already? If not..please start one. That way it's a clean thread where you can post pics etc and maybe the forum can use it as a write up for noobs in the future wtih a little cleaning.
