Why am I running so hot?

This is my first post here, but i have been a lurker for a long long time, I currently have a 1998 GTP with the following mods, Autolite 104's, 180* t-stat, JMB FWI, throttlebody spacer, ZZP 1.0 PCM, and a 3.4 pulley. I will soon put on my DP but have yet to have time to do it. My car really, i mean really gets hot. Granted it is 97* Missouri weather, but it's no excuse for climbing past 210 and getting even sometimes to 235* at traffic lights or even in my driveway. With the original t-stat and no mods but intake,t-body spacer, and pcm i got the highest of about 205*. My driving temps are great at about 185* to 195* but i'm really concerned about why it gets so hot. Romping on it really causes it to rise even quicker, I can actually watch my gauge climb up slowly. Any ides??? Thanks again!

For starters, if you haven't already, check your coolant level and make sure there is no air in your system.

How many miles are on it and does it still have the original intake manifold gaskets?

Are your radiator fans kicking on at all?

The Overflow bottle is about halfway full, and i did bleed the system until just coolant came out. Maybe i need to bleed it again? Or do i need to top off the overflow resevoir?

The motor was replaced and has only 50k miles on it and has the original intake gaskets. (but won't once i get my intercooler :D)

And yes the fans do kick on, and kick on at 185* due to the zzp pcm. i figured the 185* fan on and 180* t-stat would keep my temps under control but so far it's not the case! Thanks for any and all help!

where you buying your intercooler, i make ones better than zzps if you havent already seen my thread on here

Sounds like you have air in the system.

this is probably a dumb question but how od you go about bleeding the coolant system. Ive never done that before and i think that is what is wrong with my s10

turn on the car, open the bleeder screw on the tstat housing, let all the bubbles escape as it gets to operating temp, then tighten the screw back down and your done.

Problem is the PCM. Sorry I had to :p

Air in the system...or it is the humidity dude...I mean it was 117* humidity here today (Liberty) not sure where you are at. Car is gonna get pretty hot, especially with AC on or that smaller pulley and NO flow mods...car is probably heating up, knocking and god knows what else...especially with that crap tune on it. You got all this air coming in with your intake mods and 3.4" but have no where for the heat to go that it builds up...I just bet you need to let that damn thing breathe.

get that cross over on there. I know when I put my headers on they got real hot real fast and I still got a stock pully forcing a lot more air in there. Needs some were to go

BlueGTP91 I'm just a skip down the road in Lawson. I realize the hot weather is a big problem, and i rarely get on it because of the heating issue and don't want ridiculous knock. I just got about $2700 in cash for a Fiero i sold, what should my next mod be to compliment my 3.4" ? I was thinking headers and 1.9 yella terra's. since you say the zzp pcm is garbage, where do you suggest I get it tuned?

You may still have a bit of air in the system. Go ahead and bleed it again and see if it helps any. Even with the hot, humid weather, you shouldn't see over 205* with your thermostat.

where do you suggest I get it tuned?

Buy a tuner and do it yourself. DHP and HPTuners are your options. Once you've read up on how to do it, it's pretty easy to understand.

Well...I work in Kearney so I know the area pretty well...I golf at Hidden Valley quite often...or I did before I was unemployed for 3 months ;)

$2700? Get headers, a full size intercooler (stage 2), a ZZPerformance Modular Pulley System with a 3.1" Pulley...best 2 mods if you DO have the cash...then if you don't want to buy a tuner the best tune money can buy around here is by a guy named Bryan at Modified by KC. He uses HP Tuners and drives a 350FWHP Cobalt that powns so much stuff its not even funny. He charges a few hundred less than buying the entire HP Tuners Kit.
