Gauge Face Overlay

I'm in the process of switching my lights over to blue and I am stuck at the dash. I don't really want to buy the reverse glow gauges as I don't want white and the black one don't seem to have the right color of blue(might just be the pictures I've seen) also the black one is $80 or more.

So I was wondering if I could just buy the overlay without the red film on it or if blue LED's would be bright enough to shine though the overlay as blue.
