I have a few questions for everyone on here. First i want to replace my headunit with Alpine ixa-w404, Change the speakers to Focal 165VR components front, focal 165CV for the rear. i was looking to use the following adapters, GMAH24, and the steering wheel retention kit.

Anyone use any of this yet?

Questions

1.) Replacing the headunit and speakers can i retain chimes?
2.) If i run new speaker wire to each speaker, can i retain factory chimes?
3.) What about onstar?
4.) Do i need to mount a small speaker somewhere for the chimes and/or onstar??

I forgot to mention i have a 2005 Grand Prix GXP with monsoon.
Thanks for everyones help

1) Yes you can keep the chimes.
2) wont have anything to do with chimes so Yes.
3) you can keep your onstar w/ a certain wire harness.
4) Nope.

now with your questions answered. I have an 06 GP, I was pissed when I found out that my wiring harness costed $120 bucks to keep chimes and onstar, but all I could find was that harness. Pissed me off cause I dont care for that stuff. if u have 03 model and below, sorry I can't give a good refernce to that harness but they're expensive. This was the only type of harness they made at the time for my year GP...

Just to help you out...I'd stay away from replacing rear speakers unless you choose to use Time Alignment. That would necessitate the need for an external sound processor. Otherwise, they'll muddy the sound in your car.

You can keep the chimes and Onstar so long as you use the correct wire harness. However, you will lose the calendar function with your computer.
