Car getting horrible MPG



The only way I know how to check it is to measure the resistance at certain temps the resistance will drop the hotter the sensor is.
 


No you could not drive the car with it out, It goes into a water jacket and when you pull it out you will lose some coolant. I it is in the LIM below the throttle body, I have my LIM off right now so I can go check and see how it comes off.
 
You unplug the wire going into it, then you need either a deep 3/4" socket or wrench to get it out. You will just need to see what will work.
 


Yea I already have 180 T stat just have to put it in. Kinda my first time workin on a car since high school so I'm a lil rusty with where everything is.
 
If you have the plastic engine cover on take it off. The upper radiator hose goes into the t-stat housing. It has two 10mm holding it down. No gasket on it just the rubber o-ring. It is in the bottom right of the LIM as you are looking at it from the front. Then disconnect your batter for 15 min or so to reset the codes to see if it comes back.
 
Hey guys, just signed up. My ABS service/Traction Control light came on, so thought I'd look around. Not that I'm asking here, I'll go look around later, but the gas mileage thread caught my eye, so here's my two cents.
Anyway, just got my 04 GT2 a couple of months ago and had the same issues plus hard starting and stalling. So, I put a can of SeaFoam in a new tank of gas, took off the air tunnel between the air filter and intake, it was black and sticking. Cleaned it up, and then sprayed some top end cleaner in let it sit for about 5 minutes then put it back together and started it up. Purred like a kitten. Just for the hell of it, the next day disconnected the vacuum line from the air tunnel and set up a syphon hose so that when started the 1/3 can of Sea Foam in a container got sucked into the intake.
Now, a couple of months later it still runs great. Just came back from a weekend at the races, filled up the car with 62.5 litres of gas, reset the odometer and drove fairly sensibly 115-125 km/hr on the highway. total distance 840 km on a tank, which when converted to MPG = 36mpg Canadian and about 32 MPG U.S.
 


The SeaFoam is like 13 bucks a can here in Canada, worst you can do is put it in and it cleans up your fuel system, but look at the butterfly in the plenum, that's where most of the build up was, on mine anyway.

He has a coolant temp problem that is causing his bad mileage, but yes seafoam works good for cleaning out the engine.
 
ok, I finally got some free time to replace the T stat and unplugged the battery. I just got done a lil while ago so I don't know if it fixed my problem or not.
 
I'm gonna head out in a lil bit to see if the check engine light comes on again. Would two cans of seafoam be too much? I was thinking of using one just for the gas tank and the other for the crankcase/vacuum line.
