Bad lag on startup & accelleration

I have a 99 GTP with roughly 110K on the motor. Never rebuilt. Has had maintenance done to it regularly. Heres the problem in 2 different scenarios..dont know if theyre connected...

1) On startup...car starts...put into gear, car hesitated for a second like rpm drops to 0 and will stall. Need to sit in neutral and rev the engine for a few secs. Once the car is warmed up a little its fine.

2) On acceleration the car will kick like the tranny or something slipped. Happens usually on medium to heavy acceleration. Could be misfiring or something similar. If i accelerate for 10 seconds the car will do this like 4-5 times until i stop.

Any suggestions? Air filter is clean and is electrically sound I believe.

Thanks in advance

yea...i had it checked out and the readout was calling for a MAF sensor problem but it doesnt seem like this problem and that would be directly connected...atleast it seems that way to me

If you have an error code for the MAF sensor, try replacing the MAF sensor.

Yeah, they are very much related.

Sometimes you can get away with cleaning it...saves you roughly...ohhhh...maybe $150+ bucks:th_winking:

Also, unplug your MAF sensor and see if it continues...if it does then it is NOT the MAF.

Well..just as an update I went to my mechanic to get it diagnosed more thoroughly and it coded out to be a MAF and multiple cylinder misfires. I dont have the time right now to work on it and I need it fixed pronto. Atleast in Connecticut, if you have a check engine light on and you go for emissions testing you automatically fail. But thank you all for the input.
