Does my car have Remote Start? -- Solved

New owner of a 2005 Grand Prix here.

My key fob has the remote start button, the nice little display unit above the radio has the Remote Start On/Off setting but when I push the button on the key fob nothing happens.

Does this mean I don't have remote start or that it just isn't working?

How can I check to see if I do have a remote start system and how can I get the key fob to actually work if I do?

if it is an after market remote start a wire could have came loose if it is factory find out if a dealer will look at it for free since the car isn't that old

Check the owner's manual on the operation. Most remote start systems you have to hold another button at the same time so it doesn't go off accidentally in your pocket.

I don't know why I didn't think to check the owner's manual. This helped!!!

Have to press the lock button then hold the remote start button for up to 4 seconds.

GM never offered remote start as a factory option on the Grand Prix, did they ??? :th_scratchhead:
 


Actually it was only an option on the 05+ GP's. It wasn't an option for 04 which sucks cause I would love to have it.

Really? I Thought all 04+ got them...my aunt has an 04 and hers has auto start...same keyfob as me and all. unless she got it somehow hooked up
 
I've been told by the folks on GPONA that it wasn't an option for 04 and that putting one from an 05+ on would not work cause it wasn't wired up for it? I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time. lol.

Ok. Not saying you arent right but i know my aunt's is an 04 (keyhole in trunk) and hers has remote start....unless hers is newer than 04 and had a trunk lid replaced.
