A/C problem. It works but it doesn't. Yes it's charged

It's hot here so I decided to fix the A/C and get it charged after the last connecting rod came out of the side of the motor and broke the compressor off of it's mounts.

Anyway. Got it vacume then charged. And my buddy comes and tells me they could not get the compressor to come on...I was like ok maybe i forgot to put the plug back in. Nope it's on.

To make this shorter I can command the A/C clutch on with HPTuners and the A/C works fine. But it won't engage the clutch without me doing it through HPT. On the Climate controls the A/C button is depressed and the A/C light is on.

I even checked the low side or high side pressure sensor and it's plugged in also. And I know there are no cut wires or anything because if there were then I would not be able to command it on through HPT.

What could be the problem???

If the PCM is choosing not to engage the clutch, it probably detecs low pressure somewhere. Try jumping the pressure sensor with a paper clip and see if it will engage.

Thanks,

They just chagred it up this morning when they were having the problem. I guess the sensor could have went bad. I'll do that when I get home from work and see where that gets me.

Thanks bud.

yea jump the wires or make sure with a meter they have continuity through them. Also, is it the auto or manual controls?

You mean the climate controls inside the car? Automatic. It's got the sun load sunsor and the digital screen for the climate control. If that's what you were asking.

Why would it suck? becuase it will all leak out? I'll probably just leave it jumped off if that's the case. Hopefully i don't have any leaks. Other wise i'm going to need a new compressor when this one burns up lol

Yeah and that reason is so you won't burn up your compressor.

On another not I went outside and tried to jump it off using a peice of wire and had no luck. So I put the plug back on the low pressure sensor went inside and felt the air comming out of the vents and it was cold. Been working fine since.

Maybe it was a bad connection.

Well it's not working agian. The next time I got into the car it did not work. Tried messing with the low pressure switch and wiring and still nothing.

i bet its your clucth acting up. i had a problem in my old car it engaged only after i wot lol and they told me my ac clutch was faulty

Can anyone else help with this? Still having the same issues. It will work fine when I command it on Via HPT but when I turn it on regular it does not engage.

Another issue I was having that may or may not have something to do with all of this is the blend feature does not seem to work anymore. It barley blows out of the vents in the dash and blows out mainly on the floor. And another thing I noticed was some of the vents in the middle blow colder than others in the middle. The one all the way on the right blows cold and the one next to it does not.

And this is no matter what setting it is on. Still the same. Floor defrost ect ect.

I tried jumping the Low pressure side switch and the only thing that happend was the fans came on.

When I was tearing into the car I removed the center console around the gear selector. Could I have forgot to plug something in that could be causing this?

Any help with this would be appreciated. It's hot down here.

mine does this from time to time after you run the a/c for a long time, it will switch to the floors and wont hardly blow out the vents. I replaced the relay pack for the electronic blend doors and it fixed it, but then it happened again so maybe the one i got was bad too. Some say that the solder joints go bad in them, idk. Has nothing to do with the clutch disengaging though.

minichopper has too much charge and your freezing up the evaperator thats why the amount of air goes down. then since your not evaporating refrigerant the low side pressure drops too lower and kicks the low pressure switch. put a manifold gauge on the low side when it happens and i bet youll see the saturation temp of the refrigerant below 32 degres hell youll probebly be far lower.. way too many people overcharge these systems let some out. screw the ozone layer:th_winking:

sorry tdcracing. i dont have a schematic for your car but i believe these cars came with a sensor for the digital hvac controls that stops the ac from working at low outdoor temps. this is my first guess but its a long shot. i wish i could get my hand on your car because id know. if your pcm can kick the ac on then its not any of your high/low pressure switches.

HMMM... I wonder what it could be. I know it's not the wiring. And it does not apear to be the low side switch. So it's got to be some of the other switches.

my ac does not kick in and out. I have the correct amount of charge according to the gauge. It kicks the blend door to the floor and wont go back until i let the a/c cool down for a while but it does not shut off the compressor. Just a little annoying and only when doing long highway driving.

then you also have other problems again iced evaporator or not if you dont get sufficiant airflow through your evaporator then the low side pressure will drop like a rock so if your air isnt working and the compressor stays on then your low side pressure switch is stuck closed and should be replaced
