Need advice on dhp 1.0 pcm

Ok, so i have a dhp 1.0 pcm and here is my problem....

I had it installed a while back but am currently running the stock pcm... reason for this is that before i had it in there i believe it blew my motor twice. First time was the #1 piston melted, while racing a mustang gt to 120mph. Second time was #5 exhaust valve completely blew out, while running from a cop. Anyways, i know that the front manifold was restrictive and may have caused that , but with the stock pcm i havent had a problem, mainly i believe cause it retards the timing so much when it sees any kr. I have since put headers on.

I have: l36 shortblock, stock m90, tb, injectors, headers, full exhaust, k&n drop in filter.

My question is: do you think i will be ok to put the pcm back in now?

The DHP 1.0 is worlds ahead of the stock tune. I can't believe you're running a stock tune on a top swapped engine. I'm still trying to work out the tune on my car with a lot of custom in car tuning. I doubt even the DHP 1.0 is really that good for it.
 
With those mods your going to need a custom tune...are you sure you didn't lose the motors you had to KR? That sounds like something a small pulley would cause...and the DHP can't prevent a car from blowing up because you might have put a pulley on that was too small...
 
well then why the hell did it blow up my motor? is it that it doesnt hold back the timing enough after it sees kr? also, i have water meth i could run its already hooked up and everything, would that be enough to help with the kr? All i know is that when i did have the pcm in there before, it was a hell lot faster.

you are very naughty.

the DHP wont make the KR any different as far as what it pulls for timing and blah blah blah. the DHP will, however, make your car run more timing which would cause more knock if it isnt tuned correctly. you really should find someone locally to get you a good tune. at this point, anything out of the box wont cut it for you anymore. the meth helps with quenching the knock, but it isnt a miracle. you still have to watch what youre doing.

Not if it isn't tuned for it...you can put a DHP on a stock GTP and put a 3.0" pulley on there and guess what will happen? Just because it retards timing a lot does not guarantee your motor is going to survive...
 


right, so that was my original question... why did the different pcm blow my motor.. was it cause it added timing? i was under the assumption it added more fuel not timing.
 
the DHP has added WOT timing as well as fuel. i just dont think youve got enough go-fast mods to run a smaller pulley than maybe a 3.4 if you have a good tune. without a good tune youre looking to blow another motor.

make another intercooler for yourself while youre at it and then rock out with your cock out with something in the 3.2 area.

You need a custom tune. Forget the DHP PCM. Forget the stock PCM.

The amount I've had to tweak my top swap scares me that you're running a top swap with no tuning.
 
also, before i installed headers the 3.4 pulley gave me 10psi, now after the headers, im down to 7 psi, is this normal?
 
yea sabre, im probably not running near where the power level i should be b/c im not tuned. know anyone that can tune it for me real cheap? i have not alot of money.... i would like to get a tuner but i have no idea how to use one. also, i have a megasquirt system that i bought years ago for a project and never used it... .would it be easier/cheaper to use that or just buy a tuner?

SO .... question i was running the zzp pcm and when i got my cam installed before i got my tune could that extra timing have beat my engine to a a point where once i got the tune it just couldnt handle it and i threw rods?

Doesn't a cam throw the P0300 code? Which is for random/multiple misfire? I think. Well with a mail-order PCM, especially from ZZP...running a PCM not tuned for a cam probably wasn't good for it to say the least.

well i mean yes i understand not having it tuned for the cam and driving it wasnt the best idea but its what i had to do to get the custom tune im just trying to figure out if its possible that not having that custom tune did enough damage to make me when i got the custom tune spin 2 rod bearings and one main bearing
 
Well it might...I mean there are a lot of moving parts man, you gotta figure if you flogged the piss out of it...something might have gone wrong...
