Trans. Fluid?

My 98' 3.8 GT has about 106k on it, and the trans. fluid has NEVER been changed due to an obviously careless previous owner.
I was going to change it, but people keep telling me that if I change it now after not being done for so long, it could actually damage my transmission.
Is this true? Or should I change it?

4T65E Transmission Info

The way I changed mine was a trans pan drop, then you can inspect the remains inside the pan to see if your trans is on its way out. I did mine at 120k and added a shift kit when i did it.
