I have an antifreeze leak coming from the intake

I have a 2004 3.8 supercharged Pontiac Grand Prix that is leaking antifreeze from the back of the intake. It is the lower intake gasket. I am going to order a gasket kit, Felpro number MS98014T that I am going to order. I guess it has all the needed gaskets to do the job. Is there anything else that I need to be aware of? I did watch the video listed here and they were talking about some plastic water pipes that may need replaced? They were pulling the heads too so I don't know if that had something to do with it? I just want to make sure I have everything I need before I start the job. I will obviously be changing the oil afterwards, so I have that also.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

make sure you get the metal gaskets that are grey and teal, not the old black and orange ones. the coolant elbow that you might break (probably will) is on the drivers side underneath the blower snout. it connects the lower intake to the tensioner bracket.

There are two coolant elbows. An upper and a lower. They're cheap so get them both and replace them. It'll save you from having to do it later.

I don't know if that gasket kit comes with what you need, but you need the LIM gaskets (4 pieces) and UIM gasket (1 piece). ZZP sells them, along with the elbows. I have a picture of the newer gaskets if you'd like to see what they look like.

i am drawing a blank right now and i cant remember where both the elbows are. i know the one i talked about will more than likely break...where the crap is the other one!? i know ive seen them both before..

One is the heater core feed and I believe it's the one that goes from the tensioner into the block right next to the water pump. The other one is further up and is the return line from the heater core and goes from the tensioner to the LIM.

Thanks for the info. I know I am asking allot, but does anyone have the part numbers for the 2 elbows? :) I will definitely get them before I start the job.

I believe the newer Felpro kit that I am looking at do have the new aluminum, but I will need to check for sure. Good point.

none of the elbows go into the block directly, the lower one goes into the timing cover housing, the upper obviously the lower intake manifold.

Walk into advance auto parts, they have them in stock now in the aisle with the radiator caps, cooling system stuff. They are $3.28.

Nope. I just get them from ZZP when ordering my other gaskets and such. Never needed the part number. But when you have them you can see they're physically different.

If I go with ZZP, what are all the gasket that I will need or do I tell what I am doing and they will know all the gaskets needed?

Ok, I talked to ZZP and got the parts ordered. He said I only need the upper elbow and not the lower. When I watched the How To video, they pulled the alternator bracket off which removed both the elbows. They were doing more than the LIM though. Since I am only doing the the LIM, will I still have to remove that bracket? If so, I will need the lower elbow also then.

Did you ever get an answer to your last question posted, in this thread?
