Alternator output

With my system on and playing the lights dim and you can feel the car hesitate due to the power loss when the bass hits. I have seen those like piggy back wires you plug into the back of the alternator. I was wondering if those things actually work. :th_scratchhead:
 


this happened to me when i got my system (2x 15" speakerz and a 700watt amp, not too big).
in most cases, a higher output battery, and if u wanted, a new OEM (if not higher output) alternator is all u need. :) solved my problem and that was over a year ago
 
upgrade the wiring, a battery does not help once the car is running, if still dimming, you need an upgraded alternator
 
I use a minimum of 2 gauge wiring for power and ground, the system is only going to carry what your main power can deliver
 


THat is the size wire i run also it gives it enough power it just pulls it out of the car real bad. I will have to see about getting a bigger alt. Thanks for all you input.
 
The 04+ alternator is a 125amp unit and is a drop in replacement. Not a lot bigger but you should be able to get one cheap enough.
 


a lot of the aftermarket one's i've found have had a higher output than OEM and stuffs. hopefully u'll find a lot of those too. :)
 
If you want to stop the dimming and save your electrical system, you'll take with your audio supplier or installer about the proper value stiffening capacitor for your sound system. Whats hapening is your amp takes so much power from your battery that it causes your alternator to surge. The stiffening capacitor charges and discharges to keep your amp input voltage at its maximum resulting tighter harder and lower base. well woth the couple hundred bucks for a good cap. soory bout the long post, hope it helps some>

there is a thread about cap vs other stuff. caps are not a fix to the problem. but more of a hinder in the long run.

if you need something that will not kill your battery, or you alt. look into a batcap 800 or 2000. google it. worth the time reading. Caps are worthless.

I did have a cap in the car and yeah the lights were not going as dim but still didnt fix the problem. I have not done anything yet i figure i will get a diff. alt when this one takes a crap on me.
