Ok, i feel like nothign has gone right with this car the last few days. I replaced the battery yesterday, the old was was having trouble holding a charge, simple i change it no biggy it starts, ran good, on my way home yest i stopped for gas, got some shell gas and was on my way, about 2 min later i hear my engine making a loud noise, sounded like i had my foot on the gas slightly i get home and check the oil, its fine no shavings smells good, the trans is old with it being cold i planned on changing it this weekend, everything seemed normal, this am i start her up, making that same loud noise again, i let her warm up a bit and goto shift i makes a strange noise shifting into gear, ok maybe still cold, as im driving shes not shifting the same and the noise is still there from the engine, but i have not lost any engine power. HELP!

ok, i was just talking to my dad, he use to work and rebuilt engines back in the day before these damn cpu's he seems to think based on what i have told him that the computer might need to be reset, im gonna disc the battery on lunch for like 15 20 then hoot it back up, and see, its just very odd that the only things i did was get gas and replace the battery and now the car is acting this way, i dont think it means anything but the gas was the new Shell " hydrogen enriched" gas

if u think its a tranny issue, warm the car up to operating temps and WHILE the car is running, pull the red tranny dipstick, wipe off the fluid then stick it back in and wait 2-3 seconds then pull it out again. Now where is the fluid level at? Also what color is the trans fluid as well as if it smells burnt or not.
edit- is the sound coming from the motor or from the transmission? try to narrow down where the sound is coming from if u can.

I know the fluid needs to be replaced its brown and i dont know if the previous owner ever changed it, it has just been too cold over the winter to change it out that was this weekends project, and the level is fine i checked it out last night since it was nice out and i could peak around with out freezing. The noise is from the engine, sounds like when you have your foot on the gas slightly and its revving a bit its just loud, but again no shavings to show its a bottom end bearing issue, and it does not have any power loss, the only thing that seems to be giving a performance issue is the trans, but again it was fine yesterday before the battery swap.

so the motors revving higher than usual is what you're saying? what is it idling at in park as well as when u put it in drive?

I'm guessing a vac leak, there's a vac line that runs down by the battery, very easy break, which could give you a high idle.

Thats the thing that gets me, it looks like its idling normal, but it sounds loud like its revving high, im thinking that when i replaced the battery it might have thrown the comp for an loop and got drunk off the new juice lol, im gonna disconnect and leave off for like a half hour then replace to see if it corrects itself. i doubt that its mechanical...it cant be it was perfectly fine and the only thing touched was the battery

Really???? where???? that is very possible, its a ***** and ahalf to get that battery out and back in, i had to move some wire bundles out of the way and kinda force it in,

ok, heres my plan for 1pm, im going to disc the battery, and look around to see if i find a broken vac line, as well as double check the oil for shavings and the trans for shavings as well, after about 25 30 im gonna reconnect the battery and start her up, if i find a broken vac line, i obviously cant fix it today, if i dont and the reset dont work and i still have the noises im out of options and will take it to the shop for an evaluation.

none of the above....still makes the noise, checked oil, looked like someone spilt sparkles in there, bearing must be roaseted, how i dont know the engine got oil done at the end of dec, and it was fine never ran low on it. GREAT

GREAT NEWS!!! it wasnt the engine it was the trans!!! HURRAY!!!! can you tell that im being a bit sarcastic, it was working ok and then it just went slip slip gone, no action in any gear setting, its got 104 on it,

ok, so yesterday on my way to work the trans stopped working in all gears, when i went to get her last night she fired up normal, and drove fine, until she warmed up and then i lost gears, it was way too dark for me to evaluate, however based on my knowledge and experience, the only thing to cause this would be the fluid, (even though it checked normal a few days ago) tomorrow im going to check the level, drain and re-fill and see how she drives, what im thinking is the obvious, cold the fluid is thicker, as it warms it thins and there is not enough pumping thought he trans, and the gear loss is a fail safe to protect the trans, i will find out more tomorrow, but if the trans was done it woulndt work fine until it warms so something else is going on, keep all posted.

although im no tranny expert, my guess is since the fluid's brown and not fresh due to it being old and burnt out, the process also took its toll on the internal pieces where it too got cooked and basically burnt causing you loosing gears once its up to operating temps. might be its time to get another tranny or rebuild this one if you plan on modding the car beyond its stock limits.

It is brown but doesnt smell burnt still has a bit of the sweet scent to it, im not planning on keeping the car, i wanna get it to operate enough to trade it in, looking at a G6 V6

also trannies are very delicate, once there is an issue such as non shifting (based on my experience with my tbird trans) once the componants are shot and dont work, they dont work, there coudl be some internal damage due to the either lack of fluid or viscosity of the fluid, if the fluid flows liek water, its not gonna flow though the trans right, also causing the car not to shift protecting the gears and neutraling out, im no expert, but in the past this has happened in my other cars, so thats what im going with at this point, as long as i can keep it thicker and it can flow with a thicker consistancy it shoudl in theory be ok.
