Are these cars just as good?

Are grand prix gt's just as good as gtp's and is the supercharger the only difference between gt's and gtp's. Also can you put a supercharger in a gt.

Thanks,josh

That depends on the year of cars. The later ones with the comp g package there is a great deal of differance. in suspension, final drive ratio, and i believe brakes.

I think you should try and ask a specific question rather than something so broad that no one knows specifically what your hoping to hear.

hahaha

what year of grand prix are you getting?

97-03's about the only difference you will notice is the supercharger and the boost "guage" on the DIC or display in the center. Most of the gtps come with leather seats and the works, but the same is available for the gt's.

04+ there are many differences like what was listed above^^^

The newer grand prixs, some of the gt's are supercharged so there are many packages...

You can put a supercharger from a GTP onto a GT, but it's not as simple as it sounds. To install the supercharger, you'd have to replace everything from the heads up with parts from a GTP (commonly referred to as a top swap). The other way is the ZZP M90 Install Kit, which uses a custom intake manifold to mount the GTP supercharger to your GT heads.

Some major differences:
GT's have higher compression (9.4:1 vs 8.5:1 IIRC)
GT's have higher gearing (3.29 vs 2.93). GTP CompG's, however, have 3.29 gears.
GT's have a different torque converter than GTP's.
GTP's have a stronger HD differential.

Because of these, a supercharged GT will drive differently than a GTP. You'll need more mods to use the same size SC pulley on a GT, but for the same pulley size the GT should be faster due to higher compression and gearing.

If you figure in everything you need to do for a top swap, how much does it usually cost. Rough estimate is fine.

you should budget yourself at least $1500 or more depending on if you already have the supporting mods and what gen s/c you plan on running. Your going to need...

-GTP LIM
-GTP Heads & valve covers
-GTP s/c & pulley
-GTP harmonic balancer
-GTP throttle body
-GTP fuel rails
-GTP injectors
-GTP belt tensioner
-GTP coil pack bracket (Im almost positive your going to need the dogbone brakets, not 100% though)
-MAF
-vacume lines
-coolant
-oil & filter
-belt, colder spark plugs, along with all the bolts and gaskets to complete the job.

you going to need some other odds and end pieces that don't come to mind right now...check out the sticky top swap thread. You are also going to need a really good tune in order to run it.

you really shouldn't even think about doing the top swap unless you already have a plog or headers, 180* t-stat, CAI, DP with u-bend delete, and a shift kit wouldn't be a bad idea as well.

thats if you install it yourself

if you wait around and piece the top swap yourself, getting all the parts real cheap you could get it for about that price. I have seen blowers go for $100 and heads go for $150...I didn't want to wait, so i called up ed morad :)

did you put it on yourself?

I will be, mine just shipped today. I have read and read and then read some more for months on what im getting miself into. I think im ready to tackle the job :th_winking:. Last thing you want is to be stuck with the whole top of your motor off.

Good luck man, i would like to do this but i dont have the money to pay a shop nor do i have the skill to do it myself.

My top swap is going to cost in the neighborhood of $2k, but that's because of all the mods I'm doing to it at the same time. I had to buy all the hard parts, plus...

Have the heads reconditioned
LIM ported
SC case ported
TB ported
1.9 rockers
L76 springs
42.5# injectors
Modular pulley system

Plus a lot of miscellaneous little stuff I'm doing. I probably don't hit the full $2k, but since I never actually totaled it up I'm going to say $2k to be safe. :)

Thats a nice setup, I want to have my heads reconditioned as well. What kind of place did you bring yours to get reconditioned? Im just curious, any reason why your going with the 42.5# injectors vs. the stock gtp 33#'s? Would there be too much injector duty with the 33#'s? I was really debating whether or not to splurge and get the 42.5's.

A machine shop.

Because I plan on going intercooled and dropping to a 3.4 or further depending on how it acts. I don't feel like buying injectors again.
