I was wondering if any of you have had an issue with electrical where when the ding goes off for opening door it cuts power to radio?

I have gtp 98 I've looked online see one other person talk about it but never a solution to finding the problem other then checking grounds and they are all good...

any opinions?

also do they sell a new complete harness or is it just repairing an old one at this point?

Sounds like it could be a defective door switch in the latch maybe. The trunk open sensors are also known to be suspect, or just make sure your trunk lid is actually closed (it's happened, lol...)

do you mean like it going off even when close? they work as intended its just when opening the door also trunk since you mentioned it the power cuts to radio (Completely Restarts the radio)they dont chime when running and everything is closed if that is what you mean

or its really that sensor that causes that to cut power? that crazy but if so ill start there

I do not recall but, if you are in the car with the doors closed, turn the headlights on, then remove the key, does the chime sound? If so, does this also cut the radio?

the chime when having door open with key set to accessories does cause the same issues

i was told about even disconnecting that chime at the bcm... tho idk how to even figure out where that is in this diagram...

is that a possible solution? if so how would i even do that? because the diagram is a complete Chinese to me

First thing I have done to these cars when bought is disconnect the chime. Follow the noise under the dash and you find a box with latches. Open it, unplug chime speaker. No more chime. Function of cutting radio power when door is opened with key off stays.

It sounds like a problem with the wiring to the chime. As idrivejunk suggested, follow the sound to find the chime and check the wiring.

The Radio powering off when car is off and door is open im fine with thats a normal function
its the power cutting when car is running and i open the door then radio restarts

ill upload a video to top post a link to youtube showing the power cut

wait so the chime is not in the speakers of the car?
i thought it went through the speakers because the chime would also cut everytime the power did to radio
so that would explain the chime shorting and cutting power if im following correctly?

Ah. Yeah naw the two things are unrelated. I think you have a poor power connection to the stereo, thats all. Does it ever cut out going over bumps? A removal and inspection of stereo wiring would be in order because I think the jarring of shutting the door is jiggling something.

On my 99s and 02... yes the chime speaker is under dash, look left with hush panel off and follow the sound. Its like a component box of some sort but can be opened and closed and you'll see a perforated area on one corner where the speaker is. Get into the box, unplug chime speaker, done.

The only consideration is that for some fob programming operations, the chime is used as communication so if you use the stock alarm, theres that. I live a fob free life lol. My headlights don't come on by themselves, I can have fogs and brights on all at once... all kinda neat annoyance removal stuff I have learned on this forum.

the radio does not go off when going over bumps ever and i do have speedbumps here so i dont think its loose anywhere maybe a short in that headunit wiring?
