Low on oil last week and all I had on hand was some 10W40, so I topped it off.
Now it running super rough and burnt smelling smoke is coming out the pipes.
Check engine light came on briefly and went back off.
Did I kill it?

Hard to say.

Running 10W40 wouldn't have caused any engine damaged.

Figure out what the check engine light code was, it will still be a history code in there. The running rough with can surely make it smell and that's what you need to figure out. Was that too much fuel, was it coolant or was it oil that is causing it.

Intake gaskets are a very common failure on these engines.

Thanks for the reply.
Bought a $20 scanner and it pulled up

"P0300 - Randon/multiple cylinder misfire".
I'm hoping maybe it's just a bad coil pack.
Went ahead and bout a set on Amazon, only $30.
When they get here I'll swap them out one
at a time and see if that was the problem.

How did you ever make out with this?

What your experiencing sounds typical of the lower intake gasket failure. Another sign is there would be coolant pooling in the valley between the lower manifold and cylinder head. Also how is your coolant & oil looking?

Turned out to be the ICM.
