• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

99 GTP, two issues at once. Are they related?

Alternator idiot light came on for a minute or so at a time last week. This week I swapped on a known good alternator. Seemed fixed for about 15 miles then the light came on. Within half a minute it stalled. Starts normally, consistently, but dies in a couple seconds. Seems like theres plenty of battery. Took green cap off evap port, press valve with pocket screwdriver. Nothing there. Replaced fuel pump a couple years back.

Seperate problems? New fuel pump then diagnose charging issue or am I missing something like security or oil pressure or rollover switch? Computer fried from low voltage? Plugged fuel filter? What could cause the charging system light to be on besides the alternator? Wiring appears intact.

I am a bodyman, no EFI mechanic and working outside in cold with very little time, funds, or tools. What is the sane course of action? Thanks.

did you mean fuel rail port? has no gas pressure?

id try a volt meter on the battery engine running, see what its putting out. check all the battery cables too. the thin one alt to fuse box too.

if you see bare wire at the end good chance that cable is bad.

also load test the battery, it could be on its last legs. parts stores cant test the voltage and load test for free.

My mistake, I was at the wrong valve. Fuel rail schrader valve spews gas when pressed. Pump runs with normal sound.

Engine only runs for one or two seconds and dies. Not that fast with my meter, lol. But when the light first appeared I did that and saw it ranging between 13.6 and 14.2 volts. Did not recheck with the 02 alt, got towed home. See story in prev post.

Fuse box feed looks perfect as does alt wiring, and just now sitting still, theres same 12V everywhere as at battery terminals.

Battery is about a year old.

It starts right up but dies immediately.

we working on the gtp or gt?

gtp could be the hi speed resistor, try the relay bypass.

edit its the gtp lol in the fukin title lol

High speed resistor? Relay bypass? Are we talking heater stuff? What relay where and what to jumper? Yea, 99 gtp coupe with boobatune.

Cruise control quit on the GT but thats another matter entirely. I need to check out brake noise on it so I can use it while the P is down.

the gp, check that both third brake light bulbs are working, when they go out it kills the CC. you get tot them from the trunk underside of the rear deck there under the light.

Fuel pump resistor, duh. I may have the whole relay box off the 02 here. Thanks and yeah, didn't check them bulbs yet. When it rains it pours. Me go see about GTP...

I been out there trying to push it into the garage. That ain't happening with one IDJ but one SD could probably handle it. Regal is just about history, eh?

shes sold. guy dropped off a deposit today, picking it up later this week. daddy needs torque converter money for the ss camaro. its like a grand for the tc i need.

The battery teminals were funky as a corpse. And the A/C diode was just found to be a crispy critter which I yanked. Its been sans A/C for months now, I run a pulley.

Hope its a good home for it. Go fast part, must.

OK it runs with tab 85 bent out, now whut?

well you fixed it, and just leave it that way if you like. or you can buy a new resistor and replace the old one. some cars its on the fire wall by the heater hoses, or in most its inside the fender near the battery. theres a push tree clip holding it in place. looks like a long horse shoe.

Wicked. Yeah you need more stalls fer dat raspy sucka.

Alright then, thanks man. I just read old threads and now know the Bill-isms on the subject. I am going to have a look into fiding the resistor and seeing if I have the 02 one. Live (and read and ask, but not always in that order), and learn.

as the pic posted states on the bypass, 97-00 cars only have this resistor.

and thanks. 3k stall is hi on the list. in all i have 3 cars now. one to many. so figured id ditch the poor old regal. and it frees up some cash for that TC and trans cooler and install costs.

Three rides is a parking stretch, I gotta agree to that. Somebody backed into the GT in the street dammit.

But boy you just made my day, pointing me in the right direction. Again. Many thanks. Off I go, to prime the carb.
