2008 GP Base with 3.8 engine oil maximum capacity ??

Actually I want to know the MAXIMUM capacity ... NOT the NORMAL capacity !

My grandson has this 2008 GP with 3.8 ... looks like some filled oil twice ...about 3/4 inch above full mark !

We drained some .. still over full !

I'm confused on why the answer matters. If it's over full, then just drain til it's not over full anymore. Not sure anyone knows the answer to how much can the engine actually take up to the brim. Obviously, that's not good to the long term health of the engine anyway.

id suck it out the dip stick with clear tubing, you need enough tubing to be deep in the oil pan then over the bumper to the ground, then siphon it out to a empty oil qt bottle. once its full. pull the tube and check the level. repeat if need be.

being its winter, warm the engine up first so the oils hot and thinner, will come out way easier vs cold.

Or use a vacuum extractor through the dipstick. Insert the tube to the full level on the dipstick and suck until it quits.

It is all oil ... NO coolant !

Cool story man.

As said, if it's over the full mark keep draining the oil out until it's not over full.

To answer part of your question, you could probably dump in 20 quarts of oil before it would start pouring out the valve covers. But by this time if you attempted to start the engine it would likely reverse hydrolock because the crank/pistons can't spin because it's completely full of oil.

At roughly 6-7 quarts of oil the crank would be slapping the oil causing it to foam and may lead to damage.

So....huh? If you speculate that someone filled the oil twice without draining it, why don't you just remove about 4.5 qts and check? You said you drained"some". Drain more till it reads full on the dipstick.
