Planning my mods, need advice

if youre looking to do the entire build now just do turbo only reason I didn't do turbo is because ive been gradually building this car over the past few years and still am but if I were to pay it all up front and had the time to have the car down all at once for a turbo id do it all the way. with my intercooler I will have probably put in the money for a turbo install but have much less power and to me that turbo lag is like nothing else lol:th_thumbsup-wink: if I had more money when I bought this car I probably would've just went turbo lol also didn't have a lot of faith in the previous owner and didn't think the car would last this long so if you don't have those 2 things holding you back then kawabunga it is haha

I have 2 other street legal cars i can drive. The buick is the third car.
My build would probably look like whats below in terms of pacing because the turbo is on the high end of my budget

1. June: Z3 turbo kit, go back to pump gas No IC

2. Buy Injectors and a fuel pump, go full e85 (july)

3. Piece together an intercooler

4. Build a trans on the side. (might happen after 2)

I got a regal with a really nice body, So if i have to replace the engine, i dont really care.

clean regal turbo im jealous man I don't wanna see no pics lol jk
Well there are a few issues. My fat but broke the driver seat. the pinch welds collapse when i try to jack from there, a rear speaker cover is missing, and the sunroof doesnt open. All relatively easy fixes.
The interior looks mint. after a quick polish the paint looks fantastic. No leaks. Probably wasnt worth what i paid for it, but its worth keeping for sure.

haha I remember when I had pinch welds and a sun roof... good times gooood times (both things ive never had):th_laugh-lol3: and a quick trip to the junkyard with a couple tools in your pocket can fix that other stuff easy and cheap

For sure, No rust, clean paint, working AC, windows, headlights etc. I cant complain. Its my sleeper.

Ive been sleeping on the turbo vs SC debate and im still not sold in either direction. The supercharger is going to give me more of the driving characteristics i want. (instant response, Linear power). I have two turbo cars already, and the GTI is getting a bigger turbo later this year which will push it into the mid to low 11 second range. The buick doesnt have to serve as my "fast car" That said, i want it considerably faster than it is. My Volvo has 280 AWHP and 360 AWTQ but it weights 3850lbs compared to the 3400 for the regal. So getting the regal to 300whp should make it quicker on the highway by a good margin With awd the volvo can do a quarter in low 12s

If i go SC route:

ZZP IC kit
80lb injectors
e85
AEM e85 Fuel pump
Those are the mods im pretty confident about below are the ones i need advice on

Ported LIM Should i get the ZZP one to preserve PCV, or is it pretty easy to port it myself? local salvage yard has them for 40 bucks with the core charge
is there any power gain from doing this?

Fuel rail-- Ive heard the ZZP modded rails wont fit on a regal. Are the billet fuel rails worth it? is it easy to mod them yourself? Local cost is $14

Headers... I have the ZZP DP, If i don't do headers am I going to pop a piston on a 3 inch pulley?

Will this get me close to 300 at the wheels, or do i need more?

Ive been digging through the how to threads on the supercharger and LIM porting... it seems easy enough if time consuming. Am i taking any big risks by doing it myself instead of buying the ported SC case for 250?

Sounds like you'd be a perfect twin charge candidate if you want the power of s turbo but response of the s/c.

And to answer your questions from above...

A ported LIM really does nothing. PCV is going to be your biggest concern. What zzp does to retain PCV, I don't think is very difficult. But, you'll need some special tools to do it.

Fuel rail-- Ive heard the ZZP modded rails wont fit on a regal. Are the billet fuel rails worth it? is it easy to mod them yourself? Local cost is $14

If modded rails won't fit on a regal, your only choice is billet. They are nice and pretty. Modding rails yourself is difficult.

Headers... I have the ZZP DP, If i don't do headers am I going to pop a piston on a 3 inch pulley?

Headers are almost the dumbest mod you can do to these cars. We have basically no cam overlap which would lead to a scavenging effect. For this to work, you would need really long primaries. No header exists with this type of construction. Not to mention, there are exactly zero dyno tests showing any sort of a significant gain on a supercharged 3800. You want to go fast with a 3800, you need to cool the air charge. That's what causes kr. The better you cool the charge, the more power you can make.

Will this get me close to 300 at the wheels, or do i need more?

I would estimate about 280whp.

Whats the drawback?

I imagine i could do the KR reducing mods for the supercharger, run a stock pulley size and then Boost 5 or more PSI from the turbo.

A shattered transmission maybe? There really is no drawback.

You want to run them independently, not in compound like I think you are referring to.

I'm not sure I follow. Does that mean the supercharger stops applying boost once the turbo does? How would that work?

Yes. You open the bypass once the turbo lights and the m90 basically becomes an intake manifold. All the power of a turbo car, but no lag.

Sc is going to limit the turbos power making capability eventually, make more without it. Pt61 there really is no lag on these motors, she will start spooling (slowly) just accelerating in the same gear.Should be any worse with the z3. WOT when I had the l67 it took about 2 seconds from a dead stop to go from no boost to the tires ripping through the intersection, and from there on your butthole was puckering.

Turbo, e85 with 80's you would sell all your cars because there is no comparison to this.

There is no practical limit that the m90 will limit hp. I'd love to hear where this rumor came from.

There is a lot of lag with a pt61. Nothing is even remotely close to the throttle response of a m90. 2 seconds versus instant is a big difference.

I tend to aggree that 2 seconds is a LONG time. My GTI and volvo will both spool in less than half a second depend on RPM. The GTI over 2800RPM spools almost instantly as does the volvo.

How does one make the the bypass open? Is it something i can tune for? I'm really liking this idea.

Hypothetically, would the FSIC help with a turbo?
